Anyone else get a cricket/cicadia buzzing sound when they’re accelerating? I’m only able to hear it when the windows are down but once I hear it I can’t un hear it. It’s happening every time I’m pushing down on the throttle. I’ve heard it could be anything from the high pressure fuel pump to fuel injectors to electronic throttle body, I’m just wondering if anyone else has it/has found anything to fix it?

There is a ton of strange noises that come from under the hood of these new 4 runners. Having been an auto mechanic, it was a rough couple of months driving this thing. I have learned to tune them out. The one thing I don’t hear, that some think they hear. The turbo.

that's the turbo spooling.

I hear it all the time if I have radio off
loudest when crossing between 1600-2300 rpm

it's faint, but there

oh yeah... ESE is disabled ANC is enabled

if you have ESE enabled all bets are off, as fake sound is being piped in

I hear it. I noticed it when I am barely pressing down on the throttle. It’s like a consistent sound, goes away if you give it more gas. The sound i’m hearing is not the turbo spooling. Still haven’t figured out what it is. Putting on an exhaust system this week and hopefully that just overrides the sound haha.

I hear it too. It's not the turbo. It almost sounds like a fan belt

I especially notice when lightly applying pressure to the throttle. As soon as I take my foot off it stops.

and that is how the turbo spools up and down as well, and it makes cricket noises doing so

I have not noticed that sound. As others have said, I can hear the turbo spin up occasionally but even that is faint. If I can remember long enough I will try to keep my ears open for the sound you described and report back here if I do hear it.

yeah exactly it’s only when I barely am accelerating. I first noticed it when I was going down my street and just barely trying to keep it at 25. I think it’s just the way it is and like I said in another comment, hopefully the new exhaust just gets rid of being able to hear it haha. It’s not loud though, if I had my music on or was distracted talking or something I wouldn’t even notice it.

It's probably the weep hole on the muffler. There's a video floating around on this somewhere.

I did remember to listen this morning, without my audiobook or anything else playing. Silent. No chirp, rattle, banging, or any other noises I would not expect. A few times I could briefly hear the turbo whining up (that only lasts for a fraction of a second) but that is it. I guess I am either a lucky one or can't hear these noises (my hearing isn't all that bad, although I do have a specific frequency loss somewhere in the range).
