Mine squeals horribly every time I back out of my driveway and I purchased mine post TSB. This is my 3rd 4Runner and I love everything about it except this. I haven’t decided if it’s a dealbreaker yet, but if other issues start to show up, I may be trading out of this and into something completely different.

I have 13k/10k miles on my Hybrid Tacoma/4Runner and the brakes have never made a sound on either. There must be something causing the noise but I have no idea what it would be, OR they're assembling them differently maybe??
I am over what is causing the issue.
My current f problem is Toyota dealers don’t repair shit under warranty without their gods approval… Toyota gods won’t let them touch mine other then to look at it and say they are safe. They won’t do the tsb a third time. The regional manager has said no more repairs. Toyota brand said oh well

I said it a few pages ago and I'll say it again...IMO it is a very aggressive semi-metallic pad material. It doesn't matter how much grease or shims or new OEM pads you throw at it, the squeal will probably come right back. If I was on the verge of selling the car (I'm not), I'd try a set of aftermarket ceramic pads. They won't squeal, but you're giving up a lot of stopping power - especially if you tow. I have the loud squeak occasionally. It will only be when I back out first thing for the day. It might do it a for few days then it will stops for days or weeks. I don't have neighbors so its not a big deal. I'm even more convinced its the pad material now that I see an unusually high amount of the orange specs on the paint on the lower portion of the car and on the tailgate. I only have 5000 miles on mine, but this car generates more orange brake spots on the paint than any sports car I've owned with aggressive brake pads. Why do some people not experience it? High metallic pads are extremely sensitive to heat cycles and how they are driven. Given how heavy my hybrid OR is and how well it stops, I'm guessing that Toyota selected a VERY high performance pad material without considering how certain heat cycle traits would drive customers crazy.

They solved it for the Tundras and Sequoia’s. The only difference in their tsb are rotors. Every other part including pads are the same model number.

Hopefully soon 2026 4Runner Off Road
Yes 2026 models have the chance of having this. The current tsb now includes 2025 - 2026 4Runners and 24-26 land cruisers
So Toyota instead of addressing this on the production line is building them the same way, then addresses any issues w the TSB? How about implementing that as they build them???
Is this a Stellantis 4Runner?

It’s all about money. Not every single 4Runner has the problem. Probably costs way to much to switch it now and I bet it changes on a vehicle refresh in a couple years. I mean look the 24 - 26 land cruisers have the same issue and are on the same tsb as the 4Runners and they haven’t fixed it yet in 3 model years.

Does it seem to happen when you backup from them being parked on an incline?

This is so weird that some don't experience this (me included but I park on the flat) and others have it to the point it becomes an extreme squeal. Someone saying about the parking brake got me thinking.

Nope mine will happen being parked flat or even on a driveway incline. Every 4 hrs or so it’s been sitting

Just curious if anyone else has this loud brake squeal when backing up before each drive. Its gotten to the point where im ready to take it in for service. I had this same issue with our Fj cruiser we drove for almost 18 years.
Mine has never done it. Ever. I feel for those with the issue. But at the end of the day Toyota will fix it.

Toyota will fix it….. smh. Not good enough.
here is this morning. 5 mins ago. If I didn’t take my foot off the brake it would have woken the god dam dead. Tsb applied twice. Toyota refuses to further assist. https://ring.com/share/d1801699-e5f9-4782-966e-f78231ad91fe
Thanks for posting that - it's the first I've heard it. We have been fortunate that the sound hasn't happened yet with about 3200 miles on the odometer so far. It is bizarre that some folks do and some folks don't have it. Seems all should have the same brake components so all should be experiencing it. This is our first Toyota and am hoping that a fix comes out that is more permanent for all those dealing with this.

Mine started making noise the next day after I bought it in March…. I thought hey it’s probably normal and didn’t think of it for like 200 miles hoping it would go away. Nope. Nothing. Months later, even filing an arbitration case PER Toyota recommendation which I lost still makes noise.
