Hey everyone! I upgraded the cargo lighting in my 2026 4Runner and wanted to share how I saved money by taking advantage of Toyota’s TNGA platform modularity and using compatible aftermarket replacement components.

My goal was simple: improve the cargo lighting without spending more than necessary. In my video, I show what I used, what I replaced, and how I did the upgrade so you can see whether the same approach makes sense for your setup.

The takeaway from my project: it’s worth checking compatible replacement options before paying extra for something marketed specifically for the 4Runner. Just don’t assume every TNGA component is interchangeable—verify fitment, connectors, and electrical compatibility for your particular vehicle.

Thanks for sharing this. I already bought the cargo pillar lights, which make a great difference. I may get these as well. Can't have too much light back there.

Very nice! Where did learn this? Stuff like this wouldn't get discovered by accident 😅

Any other parts like this from other model?

Were you able to measure the amount of heat the new bulb puts out vs the old bulbs? My concern is that it might get too hot and start to melt the plastic or overheat the fixture it is installed in.

That's a really good question!

  1. These lights have an automatic timeout. The 4Runner does not keep them on continuously because of Toyota Safety Sense.
  2. I've been using them for more than a month now, and they're connected through the fuse box.
Lastly, if you're not comfortable with this setup, it's simple: don't try it.

Same money. Live better. Walmart!

I won’t be installing, and I was asking an honest question. This is a discussion forum after all.

BTW what’s with the Wal Mart ad?

My friend, let me simply answer your question, which honestly doesn't make much sense because it seems like you haven't watched the video.

The Toyota trunk/cargo light comes with two semiconductor dies. the aftermarket version has multiple dies inside. If it were a single semiconductor die or two high-power-output LEDs, then your question about overheating would be valid because the risk of excessive heat would be higher.

However, the connectors and wiring inside the 4Runner are pretty good quality and appear to be around 16 AWG. The aftermarket LED is also good quality, so there is really nothing to worry about.

I am just like you and everyone else here. We are all trying to contribute our share to the community forum by sharing our experiences, knowledge, and findings. I am not trying to disrespect you or anyone else.

Of course, neither I nor other consumers have conducted laboratory testing. We all share what we experience, try things out, and test them in real-world conditions. That's how we learn from each other as a community.

And the Walmart phrase? That was meant for me, not for anyone else.
