Total Miles so far is abound 7K
87 Octane
70% city 30% highway
ECO drive mode
Driving Style: chill

25.4 MPGs after most recent fill up.

Do I use an App or manually confirm the accuracy of what my dashboard is telling me? "No" because I bought an SUV so I am not overly concerned with MPGs but that said, if I can get better MPGs in ECO mode and not driving like an idiot, I am going to do that.

They got this depression on.

How's everyone's MPG stats looking lately?
Still rocking 14.8 mpg in my 2025 Off-Road Premium with 1,186 miles in Normal driving mode and 50-50 City/Hwy. Standard everything, wheels, tires, air dam still on etc.

Hey Administrator Jay. Have you compiled any of this information like type of vehicle e.g. 2WD, 4WD, driving mode etc?

I seem to be steady at indicated 19.5-19.8 with a 60/40 mix of freeway to surface streets. I have a bike hitch rack and 3/4 roof rack on the truck full time, and 265/70/17 WPs. I run it on Eco unless it’s hilly or I’m hauling bikes and gear, then Normal or Tow/Haul.

I cant chip in any information other than that I have a 25 TRD off road premium and the best MPG so far that I've seen on the dash is 17 something.

It only has 98 miles on it.
If it's anything like my 5th gen I probably won't see any MPG ganes until around 2K miles and a second oil change.
In the process of selling my RAV4 and I'm driving the crap out of that.

I had AI summarize the gas non-hybrid MPG figures reported in this thread so far, broken down by 2wd vs 4wd and driving style:

Drivetrain / SetupDriving Conditions / StyleTypical MPG Reported*Notes / Extremes
4WD / AWD / typical 4Runner setupsMixed city / highway, moderate driving~ 17.5 to 22.5 mpgMany reports fall in this band.
4WD / AWD~50/50 city & highway~ 20.0 to 20.8 mpgExample: 20.7 mpg combined at 50/50 mix. (4Runner6G.com)
4WD / AWDMostly highway driving~ 19.5 to 22 mpgOne user: 20.1 mpg all highway (~70-85 mph) (4Runner6G.com)
4WD / AWDDuring “break-in” period, urban / mix~ 17.5 to 18.5 mpgExample: 17.8 mpg during ~400 miles with half highway (4Runner6G.com)
4WD / AWDPerformance / sporty / aggressive style~ low 18s to low 20s mpgSome users mention lower numbers when pushing speeds, varied terrain, etc.
(Unclear / not explicitly 2WD)All highway~ 20+ mpgSome posts report 20+ mpg straight highway.
(Few data points or not clearly distinguished)City / stop-and-go~ mid to high teens, possibly <18 mpgThough fewer users specify purely city driving, the lower end ~17–18 mpg is consistent in such conditions.

Observations & Caveats
  • Range clustering: The bulk of reports cluster around ~19 to ~21 mpg for typical mixed driving scenarios.
  • Lower end: The lowest credible numbers tend toward ~17 to 18 mpg, often during break-in, mixed city conditions, or aggressive driving.
  • Upper end: The highest values (for gas 4Runner non-hybrid) tend toward ~22 to low 23 mpg, often in favorable highway conditions or with conservative driving.
  • Break-in / low mileage bias: Some low values (e.g. 17.8 mpg) come from early ownership / break-in periods.
  • Lack of clear 2WD vs 4WD separation: Most users simply say “4Runner” or “4WD” (or do not specify). There are few to no clear, reliable reports labeled 2WD in that thread.
  • Driving style matters: Users who mention “conservative / moderate” driving tend to report higher mpg; those mentioning “varied speed / sporty / hilly terrain” tend toward the lower side.

Has anyone done runs on 87 vs 91 octane to see if they have any effect on mpg?

I’m starting to rethink my choices of lights for the roof rack after a quick trip this weekend.

Before the roof rack and lights I was around 22-23 mpg on 87 octane running around 75 mph on the highway.

Now with them it’s dropped to 14.9 mpg on 87 octane around 75 mph and 15.7 mpg on 91 octane around 75 mph.

I knew there was going to be a drop in mpg but wasn’t expecting that much.

I’m going pull the lights down before my next trip to see where it gets to.

I would not think it would be affected that much either. One thing, though, is that the effect will be much greater the faster your speed--it is not linear.

22.9 so far. Hand calculated. 80% highway, eco mode. My wife’s RAV4 PHEV is getting over 56 MPG.

For a heavy truck this is normal. The RAV4 is a passenger car. It serves a different purpose.

Last weekend drove 120 miles which was 100 miles on the highway. The average speed was 50 mph. At the end of the trip I got 24.1 mpg, which is my best reading so far. The truck has 1500 miles on it. Used 93 octane Costco gas…
