I want my full Apple Music library accessible via CarPlay when moving.
Apparently, if moving, only recently played Artists or songs seem to be available.
Once stopped, apparently I get my alphabetical artist list back to then choose my albums or songs.
I thought I read of similar restrictions but for Android Auto while in motion on older generations. There was a module or harness available that would inhibit those restrictions.

They still are kind of limited. I don’t think it’s. Vehicle specific thing but a CarPlay/aa limitation. I never found it worked any differently on any cars.

Vehicle is nearly perfect for what it is . In 2026 if you want a family hauler buy a grand Highlander. I happen to own one of these as well and it’s great. If you want efficiency buy the new Highlander or that light off-road RAV4. Toyota has thought through the options that people want and there is a vehicle for each one. One change I would make for the 6th gen: I would make the gas tank larger. But that’s about it . I’ve had mine for just under a year and 8k miles.

Definitely a larger fuel tank. Relocate the rear camera setup. Flat folding rear seats…but they nailed the off-road capabilities. I have no complaints about that…not even no front locker. MTS compensates for that in pretty much all scenarios except technical rock crawling and gives you a better turning radius.

- bigger battery and motor/generator for more useful electric operation
- center diff for all trims
- flat folding 2nd row (as many others have said)

My biggest quandary on decided to purchase this 4Runner was the limited space in the cargo area/seat fold-down design. I did get the hybrid, which I know kills some space--but does not affect the back seat folding. So, a better way for the seats to get out of the way when not needed (which, for me, is most of the time). In my 1998 Ford Explorer (which was a great vehicle) the back seats simply folded down in one motion--they slid forward and down a bit, filling the gap where your legs would be and leaving a fully flat space from the back of the front seats to the hatch (virtually no gap between the back seats and the folded down rear seat). Nobody seems to do this anymore (including Ford in their Explorer, at least last time I looked which is a while ago).

I agree with some of the other things brought up (the "more than one" thing many mentioned) but this is probably my biggest. Some mentioned I have no issue with--I have no need for a V6 when the 4 works so much better. I do not have many of the problems that have been mentioned.

Fuel mileage: Yes, many care. Nobody expects Prius mileage, but saying one does not care about mileage at all, I think, is silly. Not better mileage to the point it detrimentally affects its basic purpose, but better is good. It was one of the reasons that pushed me toward the 4Runner over the Ford Bronco, so yes, someone cares.

All this said, I still really like this vehicle...actually fun to drive and works very well on- and off-road.

As others have said....flat folding second row.
Have electronic steering wheel be able to tilt up about another inch than its current limit

The transmission is horrible. From the jerky shifting whether warm or cold to the reports of overheating on steady inclines, it's bad.

As others have stated…larger fuel tank, flat folding second row, and a tad bit more headroom. Also, the differential vent should be higher and the light bar shouldn’t require the high-beams to be operating.

After a month I realized I hated the predator steps…just replaced with CBI rock sliders with kick plate. That being said, I love this vehicle!

1 year, 20,000 miles…approx. 1,000 miles on trails. No serious trails involving rocks, though.

This is my my 4th 4Runner starting with a 2003. Gen 6 is by far best of them and works great for me. That said wish list...

Bigger fuel tank. Fine for daily driving but dragging a tandem trailer plus SxS uses fuel
Go back to Gen 5 folding 2nd row
Bigger console storage

What's the one thing the 6G gets wrong (or is missing) that would make it better?
Could be spec, tech, trim availability, factory tire choice, something interior, anything.

Bonus: what does it get right that nobody talks about?
The transmissions tuning would be the only thing I would change. This is just a daily driver for me. It will never go off road and it will only tow to campgrounds with fulll hookups.

Have you tried Tow-Haul Mode ??
