But one thing, it is not 5-8k from sr5 to orp. When shopping I found sr5 for 43k and the cheapest orp i found was 56k. Thats $13,000.

Oh yeah, that was meant in the context of OP’s original question of OR vs ORP.

SR5 vs ORP is a huge jump closer to 15k. Plus, I am a sucker and paid markup to get one early last year. It has been a fun year though, already broke 20k miles.

it really wasn’t about the savings of the SR5. It was more about the fact that we had a 2004 SR5 4Runner for about 15 years and that got us to a few hundred different trail heads here in Colorado. We had to four-wheel-drive a lot of of those things, but never needed a locking differential or multi terrain select for any of them. So we just think even in Colorado where I find myself on four-wheel-drive roads pretty consistently I’ve just never been in a situation to need it. I also have kids so nothing stays nice for very long so less is more on the interior!

Thanks for everyone's replies. It seems many have weighed the pros/cons like I am doing. For me, it's really not about the money. I am looking to sell my 2022 Porsche Macan GTS that I bought new. I just want that Toyota maintenance bill over the next 6-7 years while I get my kids through college. Being that I will be modding the 4Runner, it closes the gap more since I will be changing out wheels/tires, suspension, seat covers, etc.

yes the orp is the pleather.

Nope i like my orp, had a cayenne S before this and a 5th gen before that. The 6th is still my favorite of the 3 and now it can tow my GT4

Last May I was looking for an Ice cap TRD OR Found one about 100 miles away but dealer wanted $1K over msrp. So kept looking and expanded my search to include the ORP even though I didnt want to pay the price. Long story short I bought an ORP and really like the extra features, including the seats (easier to clean, less likely to stain, all one color which I prefer, and the ventilation really works), mine came with the tow package and I love the digital mirror. I also really appreciate the larger display, especially when it switches to the overhead camera shot when slowing to 8 mph or less - really makes parking easy. Mine did not have a moonroof which I was happy with.

Okay, I decided on the ORP with factory TRD 2.5" lift. I will be running Trailhunter wheels and 285/70 R18 tires.

Here in NE Oregon and SE Idaho. It seems like it’ hard to find an OR of any kind that doesn’t have a sunroof. I am not a fan of them.

I bought the regular off road and considering the premium has the same crappy paint, the same thin body panels and cheap glass, and all the crappy plastic I'm glad I saved a few bucks. I'm still very upset about the poor physical quality of my SUV compared to quality German vehicles I'm used to but I bought this for camping, skiing, and exploring. At least it's better than a Subaru but still way overpriced.

I bought the premium without a moonroof and the extras are very much worth the price.

I would have gone for the premium but all in stock last August were non hybrids so I went with the hybrid non premium. I upgraded the sound system as well as swapped out for Home link rearview mirror and moved up to 275/70/18 tire tires. A bigger screen would've been nice but I can live without it and I've never been that impressed with Toyota vinyl seats. The torque of the hybrid won out.

I seriously considered the ORNP due to the moonroof issue and also weighing the extra cost. I have a bad back, though, and found that the power seats are really important for me on a long drive and we plan to do a lot of road trips in the 4Runner--much more able to make minor adjustments as I am driving down the road. Also, at (almost) 63, my eyes are fine now with the smaller screen, but in 4-5 years, I will want the bigger screen, especially for the cameras. The sound system in the ORP is not great and only marginally better than the ORNP audio (but then I am going from an Audi Prestige trim). It's only a bit better than the base audio system in my wife's Crown Signia.

Bottom line is, I test drove both an ORP and an ORNP. What I discovered is that I really want the features of the Premium, but also really want no moonroof. I ended up renting a Premium for the weekend last week, and the lower headroom of the moonroof option really bugged me, so I am glad mine won't have one.

In the next month or so, I will have both--an ORP, no moonroof, Everest. The only thing I added of consequence was the TRD Aluminum front skid plate for "light" off-roading. I can foresee regretting getting the non hybrid down the road if I end up getting a small camper trailer for it. Other than that, and maybe swapping out the wheels when the OEMs are ready to go, I don't foresee needing to do anything to mine (but who knows, I've never owned a 4Runner, so maybe I'll get the "mod bug."

Why did you purchased a 4Runner with poor paint, flimsy body panels, cheap glass, and low-quality plastic. I know you are using it for camping, skiing, and exploring but I thought the adventure would start the moment you hit the road.
