I actually had 4600 miles, I knew they weren’t gonna change the oil which they didn’t and they also said that they did a tire rotation, but they never did. They also made no mention of my sxth element intake and afe exhaust. The service advisor did complement my fog lights and ask what brand they were and I told them they were just vinyl overlay. Left with a clean bill of health LoL! This was Hansel Toyota in Petaluma, California.
I have trouble believing your story. You're saying you took your car to dealer for your 5000 mile/6 month service and they didn't change the oil and filter and didn't rotate the tires and you just said "OK" and left?

Hard to believe.

So, you went in for a maintenance event and they didn't do anything???

When you guys get your tires changed or rotated, make sure they pull the spare and do a five tire rotation on the off-road pro you have a complete spare tire. I ran into problems with the dealer and I had to send my truck back but that’s the proper way to do a tire rotation.

I disagree. It's a spare. I'll only ever use it for a short time, if ever, until I get my running tire(s) repaired or replaced. I'll never swap in the spare for an extended amount of time.

I had a full size spare on my 2009 F-150 for 15 years and never used it, but it's great to have a full size spare when you need it, but as soon as issues are resolved, the spare goes back to its resting place.

I did my 1,000 mile service and paid out of pocket. I am doing my 5,000 mile service tomorrow and was told I will have to pay for the oil change but not the free tire rotation. The dealer said only the 10,000 and 20,000 oil change are free.

Interesting how dealers are different. Recently, I went to my closest dealer for a 1,000 mile oil change. Based upon what I've read on this forum I was expecting to pay for it myself and be told I had to wait until 10,000 miles for one of my two 'free' oil changes. But surprisingly, they allowed me to do my 1,000 mile oil change as one of my 'free' ones without any resistance at all.

Hey everyone, new to this forum, my first post and first 4 runner. Tomorrow will be doing the 1000 mi oil change, I'm not planning on rotating the tires till 5K mi.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna end up paying out of pocket or they will make me use up one of the two factory included services. Regardless these guys have been servicing my 200 series LC for the past 9years never had an issue with them.

So what did they do??
They actually did nothing but the paperwork looks like they did so much and I guess on my history, It looks good that I went in for the 5000. They also made a cute little video saying that my brakes were in good condition. Tires were good condition and my air filters were in yellow condition, but absolutely nothing.

this is where you actually need to look under the car and see if they actually change the filter and loosen the drain bolt cause I have a feeling that these dealers just say that they did it and they don’t

That’s the truth, sir. I knew they weren’t gonna change the oil. I figured they were gonna just do the inspection and the tire rotation. All they did was the inspection and said they did the tire rotation, but the two muddy tires on the passenger side were still there and they never asked for my wheel locks.

Can you elaborate on why you disagree?

5 tire rotations ensure that I have an extra tire with the same amount of wear, so when (not if, but in my case when) I damage a tire beyond repair I can swap in a matching spare and continue to have 4 matching tires. Using your strategy I could end up with tires on the same axle having different diameters, putting unnecessary strain on the differential.

On top of that, as your spare gets older, you will either eventually throw away a tire that has little or no wear, or risk driving with an old & unsafe spare.

it depends on the dealer. some dont care when you use the 2 free oil changes, some dealers wont do it until the 10k oil change.

i really dont see the issue with using the 2 free oil changes when the customer wants to. you flag it in the system as a free oil change per toyota care and just move on.

if a dealer is that pissy about it, find a different dealer if you can that wants a customer to visit their service dept.

I always marked the tires in a hidden spot and see if they actually rotate them or not.
you should definitely brought these issues up to the management.
I too mark the tires and take a sample of the oil from the dipstick to compare color in the parking lot of the dealer when picking up.

I would seriously report your experience to management and Toyota. Equally, never go to that dealer again. Its places like that who give a back reputation to others, including the good ones.

I tested the service advisors at the dealer I purchased the vehicle from. My experience was poor. I was asking simple maintenance questions and estimated costs. The service representative had an attitude, provided incorrect service intervals, gave me a flyer with upsell services and products not even on the Toyota maintenance list. After that, I took the vehicle to another dealer a few miles further out and had a much better experience.

One more experience:
I went in for 5K service at 4500 mi - said I wanted oil change. Asked about 5 tire rotation (which I didn't want because I was waiting on new tires and wanted the spare to stay unused for the time being).
1. Service rep said they only rotate 4 tires. I said... but the manual says .... and he said: that is what we do. Well OK then.
2. re: Oil change: rep said that I could use my "10K" service but then the next service will be 15K. Well OK then.
I'll take it in at 10K if they ever get back to me on having the parts for the brake squeal TSB (mine is .... usually mild) and ask for the 20K oil change and then never go back again:>) (Well, its a terribly convenient dealer right next to metro stop so I can leave the car for the day on the way to work easily so maybe I will go back - but probably not for routine non-service "free" service.)
