Leasing TRD sport. Giving it back after 3 years.

Dealer charging $2199 for ceramic coat and $899 for interior protection along with 2594 for extended warranty. (all in CAD)

Any of this worthwhile?

I will have my 4Runner as long as it's reliable. Long time, hopefully. I won't ceramic coat it.

I have had my Tundra for 13 years, no ceramic coat, and brushy-brush-brush automatic car washes since day one. Are there microscratches in the paint? YUP. Does it affect the value? Nope. Not a single dollar. Truck still looks fantastic too. Nobody expects perfection on used trucks. I'm getting really good money for it (selling this Friday).

Leasing? HELL NO, that's a waste of money.

I have had a good experience with it. I do think that detailers overcharge for it in most cases. If they’re doing a technical product that requires heat or special curing practices I suppose leaving it to a professional makes sense.

Otherwise, I think the sweet spot is a three-year DIY product applied after a good detail.

Two things:

NEVER buy any paint/upholstery protection packages from the dealer. They are all junk, and almost 100% profit based. You can generally get much better products at a lesser price from a dedicated detail professional.

Why are you considering an extended warranty on a three-year lease?

this must be your first new car. don't even buy any dealer add-ons. they are marked up up to 800% of their true cost. Whenever they claim ceramic coating. All they do it run it through a $10 car wash with a cheap ceramic in the shampoo. It's not a true hand applied coating that takes hours to do. $899 for interior protection? what did they do, if they did anything at all. Spray it with a $4 can of scotch guard? have you ever stained a seat so bad it justified a $900 cleaning or replacement? NO! And their extended warranty isn't even required. You do not have to buy it. Not to mention it's 300% over cost. And that's something you don't have to buy at that dealer; and the price is negotiable. So basically, don't buy anything of that. You don't have to no matter how much they insist. It's buyers like you they absolutely make their money on.

It's not a good idea to spend $5,692 on ceramic coating, interior protection, and an extended warranty for a car you're leasing. Since the vehicle already comes with a three-year warranty, investing that much money in additional protection seems unnecessary on a lease.

I just got a 8 year, 100K Toyota protection plan for not quite half of what you were quoted for warranty. Not sure why you would do extended warranty or ceramic coat on a 3 year leased vehicle.

Good choice saying no to all the dealer ones, never buy any dealer applied anything, they use junk if they use anything at all.

Having said that, especially since its a 3 year lease, I would just do it yourself.

Modern ceramic coatings are super easy to apply. If you can apply a wax, you are more than qualified to apply a ceramic coating. The modern ones are much more forgiving.

The one I DIY'd on my 4Runner is Amour Detail Supply - Phobic. Its a ~1 year coating but you apply it in like 30 min and doesn't require crazy prep. The prep work is the hardest part, but I didnt bother with polishing or anything, just washed it, did a panel prep and did the Phobic application all in under a few hours.
