Your favorite tire for both looks and performance?

I ran both AT3W and Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT on my 5th gen. Both were great. Falkens got me everywhere I needed to go, incredible in rain and snow, great life. The Mickey Thompsons were lighter, less expensive, more aggressive, never got to put them to the test in snow and rain before moving on to the 6th gen. I suspect they would have performed just as well but never got to gain that confidence.

When I got my 6th gen I did Mickey Thompsons. Loved everything about them other than my first set started shaking within a few hundred miles. Turned out to be defective tires. Replaced with another brand new set, same issue. Heard the same from others who got these same tires and couldn't resolve the shake so replaced. I have had the AT4W since with about 20k miles now and no complaints. I drove over a mountain pass weekly and this winter they never missed a beat.

I'm not out trying to mud bog or climb obstacles. Just driving in lots of rain and snow in the winter and frequent logging roads and construction jobsites.

I went with 275/70/18 in SL, and I couldn't be happier!

lmao a $400 E rated tire to drive 90% of the time on roads but hey you can air them down to 33lbs and get a little less horrible ride. 1600 bucks to wreck your daily drive ride.

I mean that’s pretty much what it is. That’s why I got the SL load G3s and even these G3s are harsher than I expected. Worse mpg harsher ride, look cool though. Most people know this and still do it like me. I wasn’t in the market for a 400$ tire anyways. Anyone say they didn’t notice a difference is either lying or delusional. You will definitely feel the difference from stock.

I couldn't get KO3's or ATW4's in E to balance. Swapped to 275/70/18 E load Toyo AT3, they have been great. Run at 38 cold. Averaged 20 on my 4300 mile road trip. Comfy as well with only slightly more noise and couldn't even feel the 11 pound per tire weight increase.

Currently have the Toyo ATIII that came stock on my 26 Pro. Not hating on the tire but I will not get these again. Have 8K for mileage and they seem to be wearing out pretty quickly. Just my 2 cents.

From what I have gleamed from here and on a 4Runner Facebook group I belong to, the OEM Totyo ATIII tire is not built to the same specs as the retail version. The OEM version has a shallower tread depth and a shorter lifespan. Don't know how true this is.

Yes, that OEM spec is a SL rated tire with a much smaller tread depth than Toyo factory SL. The E loads I run have a 16/32 thread depth and will last much longer than those OEM ones. They look a lot more aggressive too, double bonus.

Bruce B and Joestac.....thanks for that info. That is crazy to me as I had always heard great things about the ATIII but I was like no way in hell would I buy them with this crappy of tread life. I may have to reconsider now based upon this info. Surprised Toyo would do such a thing but it is what it is. Thank you gents!

I had SL once and the thread depth is not as deep as LT so this round I went with C load.

Those look great. Have you had them on very much snow and ice......didnt really have much of that last year.

I think they’re decent in the snow, but not great on ice since there isn’t much siping. If you’re planning to daily these through winter, I’d look at an AT with better winter traction or just run dedicated snow tires.

I just updated my tire comparison chart. Admittedly, this is designed around what specs and brands I am personally looking for, but if this helps any of you feel free to check it out. Compares 285/70 R17, 285/75 R17, 35 x 12.5 R17 and 35 x 11.5 R17.

The ground clearance column is intended to show improved ground clearance over OEM TRD PRO setup. The +/- weigh is compared to my current setup with is an OEM sized KO3 on the OEM TRD PRO rim. I redbox E loads and 2 ply sidewall construction as I typically try to avoid them.
