Has anyone had their windshield replaced? I understand the Limited has an acoustic windshield. Safelite tried unsuccessfully to repair a crack from a stone strike. Now they recommend replacing it. Does anyone have experience with this repair. I want an OEM replacement because I am not confident that a third party windshield will be of equal quality as the original windshield. Am I being unreasonable in my demand?

I did my SR5 6 weeks ago. I demanded an OEM part. And got it. I wanted the “bad ass truck” in Morse code on the glass 😄

kidding aside, I have experience distortion issues with after market glass before. Even with the same manufacturer (Pilkington), just non OE.

The hiccup I encountered was the underside molding on the top. It was a tad wavy… I had it reinstalled again. This was after going with the fanciest shop I could find that does all the exotic cars locally. They got it way better, but demonstrated that if it’s rushed… it’ll show.

Also did it with my SR5. Got OEM through Safelite via protection plan at Toyota. You can actually do it at the Toyota dealership now (OEM) here in CO. Not sure if every dealership does that though.

I also recently did it on my four month old 2026 Platinum. Used Safelite and everything went well. I went through my insurance and the total cost including deductible was about $1500.

I did my trailhunter at Safelite. There was no non-OEM option, they had to get the glass from Toyota.

For some reason I didn't have the glass on my insurance - blame the wife - for this one car and ended up paying like $1500.

I had to go to the dealership for OEM replacement on my Trailhunter and paid $1500 out of pocket and GEICO covered the rest. I just got another ding last week on the freeway ☹. Now I’m wondering if the OEM windshield made in Japan is not durable.

I had mine replaced last week with non-OEM, but wanted to go with OEM. Anyway, the non-OEM seems to be good so far no real issues seen and was installed bySafe Lite. The problem for me was they couldn’t do the sensor calibrations because of my lift and bigger tires. So I have to go to the dealership to get the sensor calibrations done. Total was about $1050 for Safe Lite and $380 for the sensor calibrations. I would have had it done by the dealership but they don’t do glass work here.

Had mine replaced with an OEM windshield about a month ago. Promptly got two new dings within a week but they were small enough I was able to successfully fix them on my own. I don't think the OEM glass is very good. I'll probably got with after market next time.

yeah i have to go an estimate for mine after my trip to ATL. watched a rock fly up about the size of a #2 pencil barrel thickness hit the lower windshield and cracked a small spot.

hopefully they can fill it in

I got mine replaced on my TRD Off-road after the whole front of the car got pelted by loose gravel from a 70mph gust of wind while driving 55mph against it 😅. The shop replaced it with PWG glass since OEM wasn’t available. And so far I haven’t had any issues or complaints about it. Looks just as good or even better than the OEM. I do miss the 4Runner badge on the OEM though.
My insurance (All State) covered all the damage as comprehensive damage since it was weather related. But the shop did get it through safelite and they did all the calibration as well. They didn’t give me an exact number but I think it cost $1k plus w/o insurance from what I remember on a phone call.
