I'd been driving a pickup in some for or another since 1990. But my life has changed and a pickup is no longer really needed at this point, so I was considering switching to an SUV. But I'm a big guy and still like sitting up high like in trucks, so a normal SUV wouldn't do. Tahoe's are too expensive for me, and so is the Sequoia. But once I sat in and test drove the 4R, that was it. And it gave me all the bells and whistles I wanted at a reasonable price. Couldn't be happier.

Just picked mine up over the weekend. First Toyota and it complements our other cars (both 2 door sports cars so need something with utility). Was driving a Jetta as I had a long highway commute and that served its purpose. Now that the commute situation is over I wanted something more adaptable for running errands around town but still fun (not in the sports car sense - thats covered).

Always loved 4runners for a lot of reasons (heritage, community, etc). Reliability doesn't really factor for me because I did a lease (got a great deal on a one pay below my 1%/mon threshold); but the other big hits for me:
- Solid build quality/still made in Japan (my industry uses a lot of Japanese equipment so I visit often and once you have been to a Japanese factory you know)
- Still truck/frame based, always loved the solid feel and driving experience
- Looks (interior and exterior) - looks like an SUV should and still looks good dirty (lives outside garage) and has a more traditional interior (still has knobs)

One week in and loving it.

First bath and air dam removed:

The 4Runner has always been the most reliable, timeless, all-terrain, everyday vehicle since its inception. My First was a 1988 Gen 1. Since that time, there has always been a 4Runner in my driveway. As to competition, there is none. A 4Runner built at Tahara is as good as a timeless SUV gets. My Gen 4 Limited with the V8 (2004) is still driven by my daughter; she won't part with it. I gave that one to her when I picked up a new (2020) Gen 5 Limited Nightshade. Honestly, I had been waiting for a redesign, but Toyota was slow to return to the roots of earlier generations that made the product great. The Gen 6 arrived with a new trim, new features, and a redesign that harkened back to my original 1988. The 4Runner has its own swag and lifestyle that matches the majority of its owners and their passions. What was the question?

Coming from a 2022 Ford Bronco Badlands 2 door with the Sasquatch and Lux package. I was having all kinds of issues with it. I sold it after 3 years, taking a 45% hit on depreciation. That was my initial reason for wanting the Toyota, how well they hold the value.

Why did I pick my 4Runner? Well, I could write a novella of reasons, but this sums it up.

When I go out to the grocery store, movies, etc... and I park like 50 yards away from the nearest car in the parking lot... I love the way that I feel when I'm walking back to that sweet, bad ass ride that's the best-looking vehicle in the entire lot.

And, badass it is! That is the absolute second most beautiful 4Runner in existence. When everyone in the vicinity is wondering who the gifted person is who owns that vehicle, here you come strolling up with the Cheshire grin. I hope the family is excelling in every aspect, and I know you're enjoying the ride. Stay safe, my friend.

You too, my friend. Coming up on a year of ownership for me. Still in the honeymoon phase.
