What Gas Octane Level Required For iForce Max Hybrid - 87 or 91?

the rated hp from oem is based on 87 octane

the rate hp on the LC250 is based on 91 octane

i like an engineer to explain that for me why the same engine and same specs (you can only compare the HV motor since the LC 250 only comes in HV version) requires different octane ratings for the same output

LC250 / 91 octane = 326 hp and 465 ft-lbs

4Runner / 87 octane = 326 hp and 465 ft-lbs

Easiest explanation is a misprint.

I don't see why the hybrid powered 4R/LC variants wouldn't make extra power on 91/93 octane.

Maybe someone can explain to me what Octane goes into the IForce Max? The manual states 87 (research octane 91) or higher? So is it 87 or 91?

87 is the USA pump display of "87, 89, 91, 93"

91 is the RON rating for the USA pump display of 87
93 is the RON rating for the USA pump display of 89
95 is the RON rating for the USA pump display of 91

this is only misleading if you live in the US or CA, elsewhere in the world they dont have an octane rating only RON



Research Octane Number (RON)

What it is: A standardized lab test determining a fuel's resistance to knocking under specific low-speed, low-temperature engine conditions.

How it's measured: A specialized test engine is run at a slow speed (600 rpm) with low intake air temperature to measure the engine's knocking resistance.

What it indicates: Fuel behavior under idling conditions and during initial acceleration.

Where it's used: Primarily in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other parts of the world, where it is directly displayed on pumps.

Octane Rating (as seen on US pumps)

What it is: The number displayed on a gas pump in the United States, often seen as 87 or 91.

How it's measured: It is the Anti-Knock Index (AKI), calculated as the average of the RON and MON (R+M/2).

What it indicates: A measure of the fuel's overall resistance to detonation or knocking under a variety of operating conditions.

Where it's used: Standard in the US and Canada.

I run mine on Costco Premium gas. Runs great and I don’t think of switching to regular anytime soon.

whatever you feel like. each person is different on what they like to put in.

but i wouldnt put colorado 85 in since it technically doesnt meet the oem min spec of 87

I approach octane as a way to limit detonation. High heat in summer and mountain grades promote detonation. I might go 91 especially if towing. Fall/Winter, no towing any octane will suffice. I typically draw the line at tier 1 fuel only not octane. Turbo raises heat so oil more important than octane unless you are at the track. 🤷‍♂️
