Update after 400 miles with the Fox 2.0 performance shocks front/rear. I left the rear ride height stock and lowered the front collars about a 1/2" for a level ride. Driving it home from my friends shop, it felt stiff and I didn't feel much change, but as soon as day 2, day 3 and with more break in time, there is a noticed improvement when traveling over the same daily roads.

My TRD Sport Flintsones ride is no longer and now it rides more like my 2014 TRD Tacoma, as I expected. I can actually feel these shocks undulating/ moving over the small chatter, where as my stock shocks felt rigid/locked out (Mountain Bike term)

Toyota simply installed garbage OEM suspension and did NO real world testing.
Hi Chicane,

Glad you like the Fox 2.0. How much did the parts and install cost? Did you keep your stock rear coil springs?

I've operated several businesses over time and there's always someone not content with anything, Bitching about anything and everything. Forums provide a platform to run their mouth without being physically silenced, and from reading their content, most don't know up from down. Then you have those who sported a pork chop about their neck as a child, in hopes the dog would show attention. Mix these folks together and you've got the blind leading the blind. If you purchase a vehicle that doesn't meet your expectations, sell it and roll it into your next mistake. There was a thread on another forum the other evening where someone couldn't get the rear hatch closed and several chimed in with a consensual resolution. Forums are great for things like this or getting ideas when modding your vehicle or an issue you may be experiencing. I'm getting sick of everyone screaming lemon laws and the like about anything and everything. Those of you that enjoy this sort of Bull Shit, head on over to Facebook and get your shit on, there's no threat of bumping into me there, and that in itself will give you something to chat about. There are good people here, yet there's those in desperation of self reflection. If this incenses someone, I'm not sorry, so don't even think about going down that rabbit hole. Nine pages of mostly ignorant content all precipitated by someone trolling you. Priceless. Special kind of STUPID

J
Yes I kept the stock rear springs installed. 4 Wheel Parts in SoCal had a Fox BF deal 15%off + no tax. $1460 for the shocks. They had to special order them from Fox as they only show having the rear in stock.

$300 installed, including alignment. My friends shop and his alignment price. Best $1800 upgrade so far.

No increased roll or brake dive and no wallow. They just work over the small bumps, as they should have from Toyota.

glad the proposed fix worked! Considering performing the same on mine. Do you feel like its a significant upgrade for all types of bumps, like you can just take speed bumps at whatever speed you wish now?

Ponder this. Someone logs onto this forum to do a little research with regards to purchasing a 4Runner. They come across a thread like this which unfortunately is typical of this forum. Having never owned a 4Runner and reading this would put the vehicle off limits on my search for a new vehicle.

/
That is absolutely well deserved and is probably one of the intended outcomes of this thread. I wish someone warned me about the abnormally poor ride quality before I bought mine. I would have purchased a different car, likely a used 5th gen. It is 100% Toyota's fault they put overdamped shocks in the 4runner - customers deserve better.

The thread that never dies! 😆

Counterpoint: I was aware of this thread when I went to test drive and purchase my 6th gen. I experienced none of the reported issues either on my test drive or thus far in my 1k miles of ownership on any road type. I would never go back to my old 5th gen from my 6th gen!

So maybe my take is a little different.....Back in 2010, I went shopping for a new 5th Gen. I drove all trims, and found them to be wallowy (if that is a word) with plenty of nose dive. I started shopping Highlander. As one last shot, I decided to drive a Limited with XREAS. I loved it, and still love it to this day. Brilliantly tuned suspension. While I love my 5th Gen....and I may still keep it, I have been shopping 4 Runner Limited and Land Cruiser. I drove the Limited extensively last week, and the stiffness of the suspension was very noticeable. I came here to see what was being said....and found this thread. I plan to drive the Land Cruiser to see if it is indeed softer which I suspect....but I can say that the 5th Gen Limited really feels much better TO ME than the 6th. That doesn't mean that the 6th Gen is messed up or that the suspension needs breaking in (which sounds suspect to me really)....just means that it is not for everybody.

Differences in tire psi can make a noticeable difference.

There's nothing wrong with posting complaints of a vehicle. Sometimes you don't experience the problem during a test drive. And some people are more sensitive to NVH than others. Just because YOU don't happen to have a problem with YOUR 4runner, doesn't mean that everyone's experience is perfect like yours. Your attitude and lack of empathy towards people with legitimate concerns and issues is appalling. Posting issues and gripes is often how awareness spreads and ultimately may lead to product improvements. It also helps others know what to look out for during their own test drive. The real problem is intolerant people like you.

I have the Pro, I must say the ride quality and handling with the power terrain/steering is beautiful. Mine rides like a dream. I've had some hiccups in the break-in period with the hybrid system, and the car is already throwing me warnings... But overall, the car is treating me nicely.

Exactly. Also found it ironic to reference Facebook when his tirade is actually perfect Facebook post material, 10/10. The reference to operating "several businesses" as a lead in was also a good tip-off to what would follow.

Stop treating this 4Runner6g forum, which I find very useful and helpful, as some sort of community social media forum where people troll, insult, and provoke.

Just keep it to 4Runner6G topics. Shouldn't be hard to do that.
