Tire PSI over inflated

Quick question:
I read posts that Toyota was shipping the 4Runners overinflated. The manual says 33 psi for the 20” rims/tires. The door jam says 33 psi, the tire shows 50 psi max press and the app is reading them at 38-39 psi and “good”. The dealer told me the tires are not overinflated, but if the door jam reads 33 psi is that a problem if they are reading 38-39. Or am I under based on what the tire markings indicate with max press 50 psi?

First question is: when you look at the pressure, has the vehicle been driven in hot weather?

Tires pressure go upwards as temperature goes up. After a drive in hot weather a cold tire pressure of 33PSI will go up to 37-40PSI. Which is absolutely normal.

Tire pressure is always measure when it is cold.

Also the app is not always accurate, it lags big time. FYI.

Toyota ships them with higher pressure to prevent flat spotting the tires during the boat ride. It's a commin practice; Miatas are shipped with 50 psi pressure. Your dealer is supposed to lower the pressure to the correct level (33 psi cold) as part of the predelivery inspection but it's common to find cases where the dealer failed to do it.

To be honest, I buy new vehicles every 3 to 4 years for decades and this is the worst PDI I've ever seen out of all of them. Thought I could expect more out of Toyota but I guess not.

As other stated, use the 33PSI from the door frame sticker. Don't forget to check your spare too before you need it. I wish the spare had a pressure sensor too!

Always check cold, early morning if your garage gets cool overnight. As other stated, the PSI will increase with temp but should decrease back to 33PSI.

Ignore the "MAX" recommendation on the tire.

Your dealer is incorrect or at least did not explain the tire pressure comment well. He should have emphasized that 33 PSI when cold is the setting but it can increase when warm but should decrease again to 33 PSI. If he's stating the 39 PSI is good, he misinformed and should consider a new job.

I don't believe my tires read as high as 39PSI when hot. I think they go from 33 PSI to 36 PSI and its dang hot here (95 with heat index over 100).

The TRD ORP I picked up in June was still inflated to 52 psi all around.

The spare in my ORP has a sensor.

Same here. Didnt notice until AFTER we drove 500 miles home lol. The ride greatly improved at 33psi.

I just received my Trailhunter back from the dealer due to tire balancing issues. The Toyota rep told the dealer to inflated the tires to 46 lbs to have better balancing on the tires. I have this in writing.
My opinion is Toyota knows there is an issue with the 4Runners (check posts on wheel vibration) and are over i floating, hoping the issue goes away... but 33 should be used.
