I like to day extrapolate and pretend it sounds like a diesel engine when running in direct injection mode.

In regards to 93 vs 87. If you run top tier fuel (which you should) it has beneficial additives. 93 on some brands have even more additives to help further reduce engine deposits/wear. Its not even close, an order of magnitude more deposits on non-top tier.

I have a 2026 Limited with 1460 miles on it and I’m getting this weird rattling sound when you give it some throttle. I feel like there’s something loose and you can hear this woodpecker noise (see vid)

I’m getting my first oil change tmr and also having them check out the noise so I’ll provide an update on what they find

P.S. I only fill the tank with premium gas (91 octane)

I did my break-in drain-refill over the weekend...after, during start up, with the engine hood up, this noise terrified me 😨

Something does sound off there.... I am at 23k and do sit at start up 30-60 secs inside a garage most mornings before I reverse. Never heard that extra rattling sound. Granted it is a noisy engine when Direct injection is on at idle.

the rattling when you rev it that fluctuates with RPM sounds like a bad bearing on some component. Definitely different from typical injector noise. Where is it coming from?

The dealer told me it’s from the high pressure fuel pump (back left of engine) and that the noise is perfectly normal and there’s nothing I can do about it.

Sounds reasonable for a vehicle with a $60k price tag šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø lol

They did turn off the engine sound enhancement for me FOC though. The service guy didn’t know it was a thing at first

I would be highly suspicious of a dealer telling me :" the noise is perfectly normal and there’s nothing I can do about it." nice to know before I buy!

Maybe, but the truth is it's super common for people to think totally normal sounds are problematic, especially with how toyota packages their motors

so i bet 90%+ of the inbound complaints about motor noise, especially ticking, are motors working as designed/expected

I can appreciate that...with a 2001 bmw R1150GS the best fix of the numerous strange noises was to wear good earplugs! Still it would take some getting used to (nerve calming) after spending $60k for the privilege...another compromise area of the acquisition.

Sounds like a ton of money...but if you think about it, the average price spent on a new vehicle in the US is now over $50,000. $60,000 is like getting the top trim.
