so I’m trying to decide what trim levels of the sixth GEN to get. I’ve test driven off-road premium that seems pretty pretty dang nice. My my thought is probably 90-95% of my time will be spent on tarmac with an occasional spirited cornering and the other few percent off-road not that I am crazy about rock crawling but I would like to have the option of going l Overlanding as I get into my retirement years. So a question I have is on my understanding is the sport premium is geared more for on road whereas the off-road premium is more off-road capable a question I have is will the sport premium not be very capable off-road at all, would I be hindering over landing efforts if I went with the sport premium?

Any 4wd trim of any 4runner is incredibly capable from factory. Take off the air dam, and get an AT tire, and bam it's no longer street-oriented, it's off-road oriented.
Yep, the off-road trim makes off roading easier but the other 4x4 trims are all equipped to handle off road. Basically has a lot of nice to have off road features out of the box.

The On-Road Reality
It is easy to assume the Off-Road Premium will handle poorly on the pavement, but that is a misconception. Because the taller tires and Bilstein shocks absorb potholes and speed bumps so efficiently, the Off-Road Premium actually offers a much more comfortable daily commute than the stiffer Sport Premium. You might lose a tiny fraction of cornering sharpness, but you gain a vehicle that is fully ready for any retirement adventure right off the dealership lot.
