Howdy!

Looking to add a sub(s) and redo the entire sound system in my ORP Hybrid. The JBL system is generally okay but I know theres way more potential.

My question is; does anyone know the electrical system limits? Through some research it seems that the general consensus is to not go above 500 watts RMS. I've had systems in previous vehicles in the past, so I'm not going in totally blind here, but it is my first time dealing with putting a system in a hybrid vehicle.

Fortunately I have the AUX switches which provides an alternator, which should alleviate some charging stress.

Anyone have any clue? I'd hate to just be limited to 500 watts RMS. If you're running an upgraded sound system in a hybrid model, how does it handle the load?

Following. I have the exact same question. I also have a hybrid/aux switch/alternator.

500w is pretty weaksauce. I'd put more than that into the sub alone.

Supposedly the hybrid alternator is 130 amps which should be good for a 1500+ watt system, but I don't know how the hybrid system interacts with it. Wish we had a Master Toyota tech here

Right now I'm looking at the Kicker quad box. Usually listed for ~1200. Great bang for your buck if you wanna move some air.

Goot lort I just want a good single 10, not that monster LOL

I looked up the alternator replacement once, and the specs said 185 amps, but it disappeared (part# changed) and I couldn't find it again, so I can't prove it...And my memory isn't the best.

Looks like 27060-F0140 is 180 amps, but only for non-hybrid models. The 27060-F0190 is the 130 amp for Hybrid models. Guess I'll be waiting for Mechman to make a 240 or 320 amp. I had a Mechman 240 on my Jeep and it was awesome.

Dang it Toyota!

EDIT: Got in contact with Mechman. They will soon be developing a high output alternator for the T24A-FTS. Looks like for now the only upgrade option is adding a high quality lithium battery. Hope this helps someone.

You are not strictly limited to 500W RMS, but a 500W–800W RMS cap is the widely agreed-upon threshold for safely avoiding stress on the 4Runner i-FORCE MAX hybrid's DC-to-DC charging system. Running higher power requires careful electrical planning to prevent hybrid system glitches or dead 12V batteries.

How does the DC-to-DC charging system work when some of us actually have an alternator? I don't know how they play together, or how that would affect what we can run.
