Hello everyone,

I’m hoping you can help me out with some ideas for mounting a radar detector. I’m thinking about using a blendmount on the mirror, but I’m not sure how to connect it to the digital mirror to get the power. This is for a 4Runner Platinum.

Thank you. It never occurred to me to use the dash camera connector.

I would buy a dash mount like this and use the usb c on the side of the screen for power.

Great idea in theory, and I thought the same way. But when I plugged in my dashcam into that port, the dashcam brought up a screen every time about wanting to allow data trasfer. I guess your dashcam may vary, or you could use a data blocker USB cable. But I'm getting power from the Toyota dash cam plug when the Dongar adapter arrives any day now.

I need to explore a proper mirror mounting option. Last I checked, blendmount doesn’t offer anything for our trucks that’s compatible with a Uniden R7. In my other cars, I typically use a BlendMount mirror mount combined with a MirrorTap tapped into the 12V that goes to the rear view mirror. Right now, I’m just using the stock R7 windshield suction mount combined with a USB C to RJ11. It’s a fairly clean setup if you hide the wires behind the screen. But you do lose the USB C for wired CarPlay.

I had something like this for my Valentine One radar for my sport car. Come with bracket and wires to tap into the rear view mirror for power. Clean and stable set up! Now with the 4Runner, I dont have the need for speed.. it's heavy and not meant for speeding LOL.

Link: https://amzn.to/49ltUZg (they have different bracket for other brands too)

My plan is to get a BlendMount (best mount out there, I've had 5 in all different cars)

Can you take a picture of the rear view mirror from the passengers side and post it here? I inquired to BlendMount about fitting to the digital rear view and they were not certain until they received a photo. They will definitely come up with a product that fits if they have photos.

My car is still at the port waiting, so I am not able to take the photo.

As for power, I have a dongar adapter and am waiting for their USBC to RJ11 cable to come back in stock.

That should be the cleanest possible install.

Response from BlendMount. this is specific to Uniden R7, R8, and R8W (also highly recommended)-

That's going to be our BR7-2045 mount (Brand new mount we designed)
https://blendmount.com/aluminum-radar-detector-mount-for-uniden-r7-r8-r8w-specialty-2045-series-br7-2045/?searchid=0&search_query=%22br7-2045%22

* You'll have to take off the plastic clip on your mirror stem to mount properly.

If you wanted our MirrorTap, it will be MTX-1015 (Currently Out of Stock)
https://blendmount.com/power-cord-mtx-series-patented-15-long-rj-11-2-amp-inline-fuse-with-military-grade-taps-kit/?searchid=0&search_query=%22mtx-1015%22

- Hoping to have the MTX-1015 back in stock by the end of the week.

Or if you wanted our HardTap to the fuse box, it will be HT-1096:

Here's the solution I used. Generic Amazon mount specific for Uniden R7. Blendmount did not have anything available at the time of install. Power tapped using a Dongar adapter.
