OEM Onboard Air Compressor (Tire Inflator) install complete using how-to DIY

Interesting idea. I don't KNOW that this would work but based on photos posted here (including one I took) I wonder if one could slide the control panel "around the corner" of that trim piece. This would position all the connectors (both air and electrical) in roughly the same place but make the panel accessible from the back rather than side of that wheel well panel. I suppose whether this helps would depend on the design of the drawer system but for me (without a drawer system) it would still help avoid other cargo I often have stacked up in that location. Am interested in others takes on this...

Yep, I've wondered if it would be possible to cut my own hole "around the corner" there facing back, and it would definitely be a lot more easily accessible if I did, or by mounting it facing vertically in that little cargo tray directly above the factory location. Is it possible to remove the cargo tray trim piece without removing the entire piece it's attached to? Or do those types of clips need to be accessed from inside?
Ideally I would have it in the location I previously described, marked by the arrow in this picture, which would be all the way in the back in the storage location behind the hybrid battery, but the other two options seem like they might be possible while still using the factory wiring and hose, and there may just not be enough space between the battery and the trim to cram the access panel in there. It would just be so nice to open the back and have the compressor always easily accessible.. Even before I installed the drawers I already felt like it wasn't in a great spot. It's a pretty nifty OEM addition but if I could pick and choose I'd probably trade it for an ARB 100% duty cycle compressor. Mine has had issues finding the right PSI (it will see-saw inflating and deflating) and overheating. On one occasion I had to give up on one tire and just go to the first gas station I could find because for some reason it could not get a consistent pressure read on that tire and refused to inflate it.

New question: Does anyone have access to the wiring diagram? I’m trying to figure out the compressor control panel connector harness. My TRD ORP is missing the connector on the harness and I was curious to see if just a cable I’m missing or something more.

Did you by chance see the YT vid talking about modifying the wiring on the control panel to tap into existing sources? That might be able to help you out.

Yes, but since I have the non hybrid TRD ORP my wiring harness is different than both the SR5 and the Hybrid in the YT videos. So I was wondering if I would just need a connector cable or I would have to run the power cable like they did in the SR5 video but that causes another issue as I don’t have a 12v outlet to tap into I have a 120v 400w plug… hence the different harness

Parts arrived from ELMHURST McGrath and I’m getting ready to tackle this install on my TRD Pro. Looks pretty self explanatory from the video and pics posted. It’s a well thought out kit for sure. Even has its own replaceable air filter.

I know there’s an existing thread related to this topic but thought I’d initiate a new one to gear more towards my own experience installing it.

I completed the OEM onboard compressor "tire inflator" (part number # PT949-89241) install on my TRD ORP Hybrid yesterday and thankfully everything went smoothly. Removing all the required panels took less than 20 mins and the install itself was probably 2-2.5 hours tops.

The Ed Martin Toyota install video of this unit on YouTube came in clutch and I probably watched and studied it 3-4 times before I attempted the install.

Although it was a pricier option than some of the aftermarket offerings, I’m totally appreciative of the OEM integration and functionality for my needs and purpose. Overall, I’m very pleased with how everything turned out!

Your install looks great! I ended up buying the kit of parts to do this but pay for Toyota to install. They cut apart the panel and told me the ORP hybrid doesn’t have the ability to have the wiring done outside of the factory. Total BS and I sent them this post LOL. We’ll see how that goes

I went to Toyota and they want to charge me for 6 hours of labor not including the compressor so total would be around $2500 WOW!

I don’t know where you live but I searched all the Toyotas and found parts for $1100 and talked them to $500 for install. but they F’d it up so far

• Take your time
• Organize all of your removed trim panels and hardware to make reinstallation go smoothly
• Have a good cutting tool (i.e., Dremel) and be mindful of the rpm speed to make the cutout or else the plastic will melt if it’s too high
• Don’t forget to connect the blue hose to the exhaust port on the control unit before final install
