Travel Texas-Florida l-10 often. Less than a 1000 miles on new Limited on I-10 in Mississippi boom 12” crack from truck ahead of me.
Heading to Santa Rosa Beach in Florida i sent claim to SafeLite and in 10 minutes they said it would be a few days and bring into Fort Walton Beach for replacement.

Then this morning they contacted me saying it will be at least 10 weeks to get a new OEM windshield.

I contacted my Toyota store in Texas and they looked and found two. In doing this i contacted my insurance company to be sure no problem taking 4Runner there and found i had dropped my $250 deductible on glass to $1000. So obviously no problem having Toyota fix it.

Reason for this is if happens to you and Safelite tells you 10 weeks check with your Toyota Store.

I think Safelite is a great company and use the crap out of its service but this one time it didn’t work out.

I feel you. My 4Runner has 500 miles and I got a small stone chip on my hood so I had to get a touch up paint spray and hopefully cover it. Just got it a few days ago. We'll see it is worth $20 for that piece of spray paint.

Feel ya, had a 10 wheeler on I80 throw dirt dust out of his untarped bed doing 75. Didn't notice until the sun started going down and I started getting glare but it sandblasted my entire windshield.

Her in Canada you pay $1500 to Toyota and it includes $5000 windshield replacement value with zero deductible!

Ouch, that's an expensive repair.

I looked into a new windshield replacement a month or so ago while I was getting a replaced windshield for my wife’s car just too get an idea about the cost if I get a crack. $1100 and it requires a recalibration of the camera that's behind the rearview.

Owner's Manual, page 253:

"If the windshield has been
replaced, recalibration of the front
camera will be necessary. For
details, contact your Toyota
dealer."

you can calibrate the system yourself but you need to print out and set up the targets correctly, which is a PITA unless you have a big space to set it all up

many glass shops do ADAS calibration since almost all new vehicles have ADAS now

At least in SC it's a zero deductible replacement.

Currently fighting for factory/OE glass, and hoping for an install in the next couple days. I found the shop that does all the local exotic cars... so fingers crossed they do a good job.

I'd pay for my windshield cause otherwise my insurance will drop me in the future. I don't make claims against my insurance except for major claims.

It's a state law here... theoretically they could raise your premium due to scrupulous comprehensive claims, but that would be the worst of it. In California I always paid out of pocket.
