KO3 E load 285/70R18 Spare Tire Fit Test

For anyone wondering if a 285/70R18 KO3 (E-Load, ~33.6") fits in the factory under-bed spare location: The good news is: Yes, it fits without modifications, but it is really tight... No need to modify the bracket or anything, but you have to intentionally push the tire back toward the hitch while cranking the chain to leave about 1/5" of distance to the panhard rod.

Concerns: That 1/5" distance is close enough to risk rubbing when the panhard rod moves during off-roading. Also, because the spare tire hangs significantly lower than stock (due to increased width), it will completely ruin your departure angle and will likely strike rocks on technical trails.

I will go with this as a temp solution but eventually I think I will have to install a tire carrier.

Perfect! I was going to go with that size, but was afraid that might be a problem, since I have an on board compressor, I was thinking of partially deflating it to help, I might not even to go that route, that's great!

My experience with BFGoodrich has been bad. In my opinion, these are some of the most popular tires with some of the poorest on-road performance. After about 15,000 miles, they also become noticeably louder.

yea, this might be ok for some mild overlanding, but definitely not ok for rock crawling.

I really like the KO3s. They're very capable off-road, grippy and strong. As for noise, I honestly can't tell much difference from my stock Toyo Open Country ATIIIs. And the white letters look great on the 4runner.

I was going to say i dont know why they added a layer of white rubber on the new tires... i havent had a new set kO3s but i love my old tires...I had them on a 3/4 4x4 dodge diesel so noise wasnt even thought of. Id NEVER put them on a 4runner way too heavy rigid for a light 4runner.
Unless you need that 10ply bc you shred the sidewalls on rock.
I also saw this and i probably wont be getting BFGs anytime soon...

It was fully seated. I think it's just my tire is slightly bigger.

no doubt.. ! was just showing what will happen when you scrape that sidewall, you will be running with a white stripe on your sidewall.
