Hello everyone.
Most of the time when I shifted to gear very smoothy in the morning. But sometimes it is rough. Is there a trick or technique to shifting gear? My procedure is apply pressure on the foot break. Listen to the electronic breaking release. Keep apply pressure on foot break and shift to what ever gear I need.

When I parked. My procedure is apply pressure on foot break. Shift to P. Wait for electronic breaking engaged and letter PARK indicator appears on the dash board and release the pressure on my foot break.
TIA.

The Gen 6 transmission has actually been around for a while on other vehicles and has been documented for many years to have a notoriously rough first few shifts when cold. According to Toyota as well as hundreds of reviews from other users, it is not bad for the truck, is considered normal operation and will smooth out when fluids warm up.

All that being said, the first time i felt it i have to admit i found it “concerning” and immediately suspected i just experienced a transmission failure. I took the truck to the dealer immediately and explained my experience where they laughed and essentially said “welcome to owning a 6 Gen”

Im at about 1500 km now and live up where spring time temps are still in the -15C mark. The rough shifting usually goes away after 2 - 3 minutes of driving and warming up and i have also found when the truck is parked in a heated garage, the rough shifting is next to nonexistent on cold start.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. Yes I’m experiencing the same environment as you are. Only early in the morning. The rest of the day is as smooth as butter especially when it is warm outside.

Ya, its a normal thing my friend :)

You can sleep well at night knowing its fine and a normal part of the vehicle. When you hit warmer summer temperatures it will likely go away or be hardly present at all but will return by fall time again when winter approaches.

Letting the truck idle and warm up will not make a difference either, you need to physically work the transmission for a few blocks to get the fluids moving and then your good.

U r right. I try all techniques and come to the conclusion that it only happened early in the AM. No matter what I do. Pre start, let engine runs and the list goes on 😂😂. Even Toyota engine will need some coffee in the AM 😂😂😂

I really don't think this is just a 6GEN issue. Every truck I have ever owned has been rough shifting until the transmission fluid warmed up. Cars not so much usually not a problem with cars but with trucks everyone I've ever driven has been like that.
