So a lot of people haven't explored their second row, especially while folded up. So I made a short video explaining some added helpers.

The fact that the strap exists really highlights the lack of forethought that was put into the second row design. Seems like a quick fix from a concept vehicle that was never addressed before final production ramped up.

I agree it is a dumb design (that all manufacturers seem to be doing), but the strap does work and it is presumably very inexpensive to implement. I do wish they were better designed so they actually were out of the way in a more useful fashion. This was one of my sticking points on purchasing the vehicle, but it seems that most are doing something similar.

I discovered the straps but not the covers. Neat feature. Hopefully people don't strap the seats to the front seat head rests and break something.

Yep,
the back seat design is a problem for me as I use my 4r for carrying things like I would if I had the pickup truck version!

If Toyota was really thinking they would have given us an option for a back seat similar to a third row seat that is very flat and not very padded.
That would be perfect for those of us who actually carry things in the back that require length without obstruction.

I would have opted for a very flat bench style removable seat in place of the cushy seat that is seldom used.
Perhaps a vendor might creates one as a low-cost option.

I finally just watched your video...I have read the manual and knew about the strap, but apparently missed the part about the covers! Thanks, that is pretty nice. I am wondering if I could attach a small piece of rubber on the inside over that hole in the covers to keep dirt out of that. I am thinking a flexible but thick enough piece to be fairly stiff and gluing it at the back edge so you can still put your finger in the hole to pop it out. Could go fancier too with a spring loaded hatch, or maybe better a sliding door that you could shut/open from the top.

for me normal day to day city driving, my folded seats dont move. and i have them folded since day one since i dont have anyone besides my self 95% of the time.

on the rare occasion, the wife comes along, but otherwise they sit folded for the dog or groceries.

if we need to carry more than 2 people, we take the 23 tundra platinum crewcab for the really extra passenger seat comfort in the 2nd row
