it’s mixed as far as how severe and who gets it. Mine is horrible. It’s so loud I don’t even bother driving it in the morning. The tsb gave me like a day of silence and then a light squeal (which I would have gladely lived with) and then just now sounds like poo again.

the tsb doesn’t fix it. It’s almost has if Toyota didn’t do any testing before hand and just throw some parts at it hoping we would all go away. I mean clearly all of us who have the noise it’s come back fairly quickly so it’s not like they couldn’t test it before hand. Instead we are the test dummies and we get to waste our time going back and forth to the dealership. Mine has been to the dealer ship 5 times since March about this issue and two of those times were overnight.
Was the sound there from the beginning at delivery or did it develop weeks/months after bringing it home?

Like the next day. When I heard it I was like eh new car thing was kind of surprised it was so loud but didn’t think anything of it. I also had a 2016 4Runner that was perfectly fine 0 issues never been to the dealer for anything other then general maintenance. I got that new back in 2016. I was not aware of any type of issue regarding brake squeal noises in other models like tundra for example. The following week I took it in for service at my local dealer using the same service guy for 15 years between my last two 4Runners. I also had a 2008. He wasn’t surprised he said he was aware of other models but hadn’t seen a new 4Runner yet. They did an inspection said everything was fine. he said call Toyota. So since April like 6th or something it’s been in 5 times. I had some other issues they needed to fix. I needed a new spoiler and also driver door rattle. Everything is fine except that r brake noise. Each time after the tsb was done (twice) follow day no noise and then the day after light squeal which I could 1000000% live with that light squeal noise but gods f sake i can’t f drive to dunkin at 630am in the morning because it wakes up my kid because of how loud it is. Then that’s a big deal cause now everyone has to get up early and blah blah and wow just fracking wow dude. And nothing from Toyota just a half ass fix. Sorry just venting haven’t really enjoyed my rig since I got it and financially now I am stuck for a while. What is really baffling is some people don’t have it, some have it lightly and isn’t a big deal, some have it really bad

No need to apologize. That’s incredibly frustrating and I would have the same reaction as you if I was already in one and this was going on with no real fix seemingly available.

I have been shopping for a new vehicle for close to 5 years. Previous generation of 4Runner was something that just didn’t work for our family for a variety of reasons, so I have been waiting on the 6th generation for several years. I have been excited while I wait for mine to be delivered, I have a ton of accessories already picked out and ready to go. But then I started following this thread and hearing some of the stories and seeing that the fix doesn’t actually fix the issue has given me some pause. I am supposed to pick up my 4Runner tomorrow morning and at this point I’m just trying to find a logical reason not to cancel that appointment and give up my 4Runner to wait for a lasting fix to this issue.

I’m sorry you are dealing with this and hope that you can get a fix for it soon, but if it makes you feel better your story is likely to save me from unknowingly going down the same road. I appreciate you sharing your story.

This is how it sounded this morning 😡😡. It started two weeks ago as very low noise, but today it went back to the way it was before July 14 when they did some work (not the TSB)

This video is good and what Toyota needs. It should be given to the service manager so they can foward to the regional rep which can then foward to engineers.

This brake issue is a big ordeal because its a new vehicle and can be a lemon law case. The last thing Toyota wants is to buy back a bunch of 4runners for an issue so the more people bring it back for the same concern then the faster they will work on the issue. If you even mention lemon law youll be surprised how fast they will do things and what they will do.

Do you have anything from the service on paper of what they did you can share?
Sorry, just the Master Tech said I got you!
And my understanding is they shave the edge of the break pads.
He called it "the old dirty"

Yea I am gonna mention that when I speak to them. Not looking to take it back for a 6th time lol it’s inconvenient. But last time they did the tsb they said that the first tsb set they thought something was wrong with the brake back plate? I dunno

This is me backing out of my parking spot for work. This is after TSB repairs were completed. Today is September 2, 2025. I didn't have anyone to stand outside and record me backing up, but the noise is categorically worse than before the TSB.

Showed this to my local dealer, they were completely at a loss other than "Yeah we figured it'd be back."

It's comical at this point, really.

Shave the edge of the pad's

Was taught that young and just did it as a rule of thumb to every brake pad replacement I ever did.

Personally I've always taken the edge of the face of the pad and put a 45 degree angle on it with my bench grinder, doesn't have to be much, just enough to knock the edge down. Next set of pads you get, rub your fingers around the edge, it's not smooth. JMHE

A lot of pads come that way out of the box. Can't be that dirty.
