I had a TRD skid plate installed on my 4Runner and wanted to add the trail hunter transfer case skid plate with it. I saw other forums about it but was not sure if this was the correct way to install it. There were 4 screws for the transfer case one which was installed first, and then 6 for the aluminum TRD one which was installed after the transfer case due to it blocking the front mounted screws on it. These were the best pictures I could get.

Quick question,
do you have the hybrid version.
I have an orp and I was looking at the transfer case plate as well, but I did find that they are very different between the hybrid and the standard non-hybrid.

The difference are, the hybrid has a lower drop to the plate, the standard transfer case non-hybrid is very shallow and flat, giving you maximum ground clearance.
Also they are different part numbers.
Just my two cents here.

I have the non-hybrid version. The part number I ordered was PT228-35248

Thanks for the help,
I was stuck thinking they shared the same screw hole at first but eventually figured out
Thanks for providing your pics and experience. I plan on making a transfer case purchase next time Toyota has a mega sale, and I have the TRD skid plate already, so this is perfect.

That's what I did. Bought the front skid on sale, then next sale bought the transfer skid. Then realized I had to remove the front to install the transfer skid 🧐

Do you mean transmission skid plate instead of transfer case? If I am looking at your pictures correctly, the engine skid in on the left and the transmission on the right.

I had the same question. But the Toyota part box was labeled “transfer case” …so some confusion there.

This is PT228-35247 (the Hybrid version).

I have a hybrid and am fully skidded out with RCI steel skid plates, except for the transfer case. Do you happen to have a link or part # for a Toyota skid (just out of curiosity)?

Edit: FWIW RCI recently released their Transfer case skid plate. I just found it on their website.

I think some dealers say transfer case skid plate while others say transmission skid plate for some reason

The non-hybrid is PT228-35248.
But Toyota is always changing part numbers so definitely call the dealer to confirm.

T_P: In another thread quoted below (from "Difference between hybrid and non-hybrid Transfer Case Skid Plate?" which Joe_Dirt started), I was having the similar confusion about transmission vs transfer case skit and I ended up taking a photo (see below) of my TRD ORP transfer case - which sits just behind where the "TH" transmission skid ends - and it already has its own little skid. Does yours not have this or is your sense that you need more protection - which the RCI skid you linked would seem to provide?

I got to wondering about your question and so took a photo of my actual transfer case (on TRD ORP hybrid) which has its own little skid. I don't THINK that is what you are referring to but it does highlight that Toyota refers to the "transmission/transfer case" skid plate both ways. Here are the two part numbers you referenced in OP from one vendor with the different names -and very similar but slightly different photos:>): Elmhurst PT228-35248; Elmhurst PT228-35247

I have no idea if your SR5 has this transfer case mini skid but I've seen it on TRD PRO and my ORP (see photos below)- and from this video of TRD Sport non-hybrid it seems like that mini-skid is missing 4Runner underneath- hence me wondering if that is what you are actually looking for, given the naming confusion from Toyota on the skid that fits between 2nd and 3rd frame cross bars - which is what you see in the bottom left of first photo below. )

Yeah, your observation is correct. After doing a little searching online and from what I already knew of the hybrid, the bottom was designed differently, which explains why on the hybrid the sequence goes engine, transmission, and then transfer case skid plate in that order. I called RCI and they said that they just recently released the hybrid skid plate. I’d have to take a look underneath my forerunner again, but yes I’ve replaced whatever was there with steel skid. I spend a few weeks in Colorado every year and don’t want to risk puncturing or damaging anything so I went with full steel skid plates. Basically everything RCI offers is what I purchased.
