2025 4Runner TDR cameras everywhere but most only work when stopped or until the vehicle reaches 10 MPH. I would like to have the rear camera on all the time I am driving. Anybody know if this is possible?

Impossible. Toyota disable 360° camera view when speed more than 10 mph for safety. Other manufacturers do that too.

I suppose if you have the digital rear view you could technically have the rear camera on all the time. I never use that on mine, but it is there.

Correct, but when off-roading (or somewhere you are often going very slow but may go over the trip point) you can select the Auto option on the screen so it will at least re-enable the camera when you go back under 10 MPH.

i suppose until tss 4.0 comes along, this is a moot point.

but dont expect tss 4.0 to come to the 4R anytime soon. you will have to wait until the next gen for a newer tss version if toyota follows the normal protocol.

(protocol is being they dont update a gen tss version until a new gen, at least on the BoF vehicles)

high selling units like the rav4 and camry can even see mid cycle refresh changes

rav4 5th gen came with tss 2.0 (2019-2022), then 2.5 came out in 2023-2025, then 6th gen rav4 came with tss 4.0

TSS 4.0 (2026 Models): The most advanced system debuts on the redesigned RAV4. It operates on a new Arene OS software platform, utilizing higher-resolution radar and cameras for predictive rather than merely reactive safety. It includes upgraded versions of Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Tracing Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Proactive Driving Assist. It also supports Over-The-Air (OTA) updates.

Same. I know some people use it 100% of the time instead of the actual mirror, but I just can't get into it like that.

What's your point?

Hmm, but 4Runner 5th gen went from no TSS at all to having TSS-P in 2020, so there's probably hope for a platform that lives as long as 4Runner between gens.

But, it at minimum would take a major refresh, that's for sure.

I'm confused by the discussion. I have the digital rear view mirror and use it almost 100% of the time (I usually only flip the lever to see my rear window up down status in the actual physical rear view mirror). But this is not the same as what I interpreted the OPs question to be, regarding having the large (14" or 8") display continuously show the "backup camera" view.

On a separate but related topic.... I know I have two cameras above the license plate. I know the one left of center is the rear view mirror. The one on the right of center is angled down and so I THINK its the tow hitch monitor (which I can see when I activate a trailer).

What I'm not sure of and hoping someone can tell me is: Which of those two cameras are used for the "back up camera" function that shows on the large display?
The two cameras I'm talking about - one above the left license plate screw one above the right screw (angled downward).

I only have the one under the A but your photo makes it look like its pointer way lower.

@MikeD The one that points straight out is the one for the panoramic view. The one that points down is for reversing and trailer assist.

I think the issue with OP is they don't have the digital rear view, so might not have the camera to turn on. Or they don't know they do.

Edit: The digital rear view also uses the camera that points straight out.

Thanks guys!
Combining your observations.... the camera on the right must be on all trims to provide the "backup camera" view on the 14/8" display (and trailer assist if so equipped?**).

Since mfoga has ORP - and therefor must have the Multi-Terrain Monitor - the right camera must also provide the MTM views (including the composite overhead view, e.g., when parking).

The left camera (which I already knew was the rear view mirror camera from standing behind the truck and looking at the digital rear view mirror display) must only be there if one has the digital mirror option that happens to come with the tow package (Option TD: Tow Tech Package - w/ Trailer Reverse Assist (TRA) Control, Digital Display Rearview Mirror - the best $400 option available!!)

** I think this point is still in question. Since the digital rear view mirror only comes with the Tow Tech package it would seem that its camera might also be used for trailer assist. But the trailer assist view shows up on the big display - same as backup camera view and MTM. So I remain uncertain. Guess I'm going to need to tape over the right camera and see what happens to the trailer backup guide screen. I suspect that it might never let me get to the screen because "Trailer Backup Guide uses the rear camera to detect the trailer" (pp 432, hybrid manual) . I'm betting that Joestac is right and trailer assist does use the right camera, but we will see:>)

I think the OP does not have digital rear view mirror and wants the "backup camera" view to stay on the 8/14" display... unfortunately that is apparently not a feature that is available - for reasons stated by others above. But - with apologies to the OP - thanks for the help on my side question.
