Bluetooth connectivity improved?

I’ve always considered this an iPhone problem but for the last week or two the Bluetooth connection to my gen6 ORP has been reliable. Anyone else have similar experience?

2025 Off-Road premium with the JBL system. Zero issues with connecting my iPhone 16 to CarPlay or playing directly from my phone. I do notice that when I start it remotely, I have to turn off the head unit and back on in order for CarPlay to connect. This makes sense, since my phone isn't in the vehicle at the time of starting it. I'm at 5200 miles.

I switched over from a Volvo a couple months ago and had occasional connection issues. Until recently I would have to turn Bluetooth off and on on the iPhone to get connected. Maybe an apple update fixed it… just curious.

CarPlay bluetooth or regular bluetooth?

1,500 miles in and the only issue I had with CarPlay was on one trip, for some reason, the entire CarPlay system shut off and restarted twice out of the blue. Never had that since that episode

My carplay disconnects on its own with my iphone 16 pro at least several times a week. Sometimes each ride. Really disappointed because when I got the car it was fine, but I assume some sort of OTA update ruined it.

No problems, but I've been using Android Auto principally and it relies on Bluetooth to make the connection and Wi-Fi Direct to transmit data. It's actually been functioning perfectly.

I’m in the group that never had issues with my iPhone and the 4Runner, it always connects reliably and quickly.

Disconnects from bluetooth android auto are always location dependent for me. There are electronic devices out in the world that interfere with the connection. Every single time I drive past this one spot on the interstate and this one building downtown it disconnects. It happens to others with different brand cars in the exact same spots.

Keep this in mind when troubleshooting. Apple CarPlay used both Bluetooth and WiFi to connect. The WiFi connection is required.

Another option is to long-press the Phone button on the steering wheel, then press "Connect a Device" on the infotainment screen, then tap the Carplay toggle to the right of your iPhone in the list of devices. It will connect your phone via wireless Carplay within about 2 seconds.

Yeah this is completely normal for CarPlay/AA to disconnect. Same with BT connections. If there is enough interference that ill cause it to disconnect because the connection was interrupted and then it will reconnect. Things like this are just a minor inconvenience caused by world that increasingly has more and more interference.

You can fix it if you wrap your whole vehicle in foil or something else that blocks signals, but then your phone wont work and you wont be able to see.

No problem on my '25 ORP. Sometimes my Apple CarPlay won't start on vehicle startup or after doing a remote start. Once I learned that a simple restart of the Multimedia display (hold done the volume knob) brings it back, I haven't bothered to figure out why.

The bluetooth seems fine. What drives me crazy is if you dont have your wifi on it wont connect and you constantly have the error pop up on the screen.

I found this:
In the 4Runner, there are actually two wireless technologies involved:

* Bluetooth is used initially to discover/pair your iPhone with the vehicle and establish the connection.
* Wi-Fi then carries the high-bandwidth CarPlay connection—audio, maps, Siri, apps, etc.

So the important distinction is:

Bluetooth = pairing/handshake
Wi-Fi = the actual wireless CarPlay data connection
