Hello,

I'm thinking about getting a new 6th gen 4runner. Just wondering if anyone has had problems overheating or 4wd issues?

I've been offered a good amount for my 5th gen and I'm considering trading since mine is 7 years old.

I appreciate your help!

I have spent far more time on this forum and others since researching and now owning this vehicle and I have not seen many reports. There was this one Reddit post a little while ago, , some folks on here have gotten the random "Drive-start control malfunction", but not limited to towing.

All that to say, not enough causes to cause me pause in ownership.

Pulling a 4000lb trailer through the hills of eastern KY and TN the temp didn't change from normal driving without the trailer, stayed in the middle of the range. Have 11k on my ORP and no issues other than the known occasional hard first shift in the morning

Last summer I was driving on a trail off road in 4HI and noticed after a long uphill climb that my transmission temp was creeping up pretty high. I read later online that this doesn’t happen when the vehicle is put into 4LO in that situation. It was not something I worried about in my 4th or 5th gens, so I will just have to remember to go into 4LO or try putting the transmission into manual mode to keep it in lower gears. I saw another post from someone whose transmission was getting hot while towing, presumably because they weren’t using tow/haul mode. In any case it’s not a typical thing.

Towed both of these cars for hours and didn’t have any over heating issues
