We all love our 4Runners, but let’s be honest — no car is perfect.
If Toyota handed you a pen and said, “You’re designing the 2027 model — what would you do differently?” — what would it be?

Would you:
  • Add more storage space?
  • Improve fuel economy?
  • Upgrade the interior tech?
  • Bring back a V8?
  • Redesign the cargo area or seats?
Drop your ideas below — big or small, serious or just for fun. We want to hear them all! 🚙💭

We’ll feature a few of the best responses — and maybe send a small surprise to one lucky participant

So what’s your dream upgrade for the 2027 4Runner?

I'd make a 'Rock Edition' with an updated Tundra V8. Dana 44's or 60's front and rear, with
e-lockers in both diffs. The TRD Off-Road and the TRD Pro will have the option to upgrade to the Danas (44/60) with F/R lockers. The SR/SR5/Limited versions will have the standard IFS up front with an optional air-ride suspension for the Platinum.

Really only just one item I can mention to change!

Well outside of the gas tank too small we won't mention that one.
Next up a little bit more soft Tech with an interior option color. Won't mention that one either.

But the real change would be!!! The rear seats would have to lie flush and flat. That one would be the one thing that I would change!

I have always used my 4Runners for utilitarian purposes ranging from off-road excursions, camping and general hauling of crap for Home Improvements Etc. Having a flat fold down seat is number one priority. I'm on the verge of taking the 60% side out.

Yes the new Ford Bronco 2 door Badlands Dana's front and rear and seven speed manual with lockers completely nailed it!

For me I think a slightly bigger fuel tank would be nice to have a little more time between fill ups. I’d also add some more storage cubbies. I’d love to see some type of under seat storage or even floor cubbies.

This would be a 100k vehicle, before the dealers added 50k to the msrp...

I like the way the 4Runner is from the exterior side, however, for the price they are asking in Canada, how about an interior that feels the money they are asking for?

Take note that my ideas are for what we can buy in Canada, our options are quite limited compared to what is available in the USA.
  • Heated steering wheel without having to add 4k$ to move up from the standard model.
  • 5 seats option on the standard model, why 7 seats only, this is not a minivan.
  • More color options on the standard model (black, grey and white are no colors).
  • Did I say less plastic? C'mon, Toyota! You are asking over 58k$ for a base model, make it look inside like it's worth that price.
  • Availability? Hello! Can we have at least one model available to test drive without having to be put on a waiting list? It's been over a year and half since the Gen6 is out and these are UFOs in my area. When you see one on the road, it's your lucky day. Stealership are asking more for a 2025 model than what is displayed on Toyota's web site for a 2026.

This is what I would change.
Front bumper to actual steel one not that plastic crap that is 6 inches away from the bumper bar! That way when you get hit at 5mph by someone reversing out of the parking spot in their Venza you won't suffer $7500 worth of damage on your scratch free TH. I kid you not! I bended fender back with two fingers! What's the damage you might ask- well headlight gone, bumper cover gone, hood crumbled, fender pushed into the door, side fender brackets mangled/cracked.
For comparison once upon a time I was going 78mph in 5th gen through SD and took 10 point white tail buck head into a driver front ( that impact pushed me onto adjacent lane ) it spun around damaging bumper, fender, both doors and rear quarter panel. I had to use ratchet straps to pull fender forward freeing up my door but I didn't even crack a headlight. 6th gen would be absolutely obliterated at the impact.
