8 months into the year and dealerships do not have the specs for an alignment on my 4Runner Trailhunter.

I went to the dealer I bought my Trailhunter from and told them I had a concern about the alignment. Seems to pull slightly but consistently to the right. Service manager went to the alignment rack and said they didn’t have the specs yet in order to check the alignment. Further stated that the specs come from a third party and update twice a year with the next update not expected until October-November!

I called Toyota Customer Experience Center and was told the specs were available and the dealer simply needed to reach out to Toyota Technical Support or contact the Regional Toyota Representative.

I called a different dealer and asked and they said "No problem they just need to look up the information and that the other dealer was just being lazy. OK, so I went to the second dealer to have the alignment checked and they then told me that the specs were in my Manual. They would just plug in the numbers from my manual. I didn’t have my manual with me because I have been reading it at home.

I believe she also said that they wouldn’t be able to give me a before and after print out because the numbers were being entered manually.

So I set up another appointment for late next week and I’ll have to bring my manual!!

Does this sound at all correct? Sounds pretty half arss to me.

Thanks for any and all replies!

Wow. Seems more than half-arsed - more like full arsed.

I've been through the manual and asked Gemini to check it too and there are no alignment specs in the manual that I can find. (Gemini Notebook said:
"The provided sources do not contain the specific mechanical wheel alignment measurements (such as camber, caster, or toe angles) for the 2025 Toyota 4Runner.)
However, the manual does detail how wheel alignment directly affects the vehicle's advanced safety technology, along with the warning signs of misalignment")

I've had two alignments done by dealer service department and both show before (with red on caster, toe, and total toe) and after (all green). So specs must exist.

When I had leveling kit put on by local tire shop about a year ago their system - just updated the week before - did not have the specs for 2025 4Runner so I told them to use 2024 Tacoma and that seemed to work.

Your dealer's service advisor should be embarrassed by their incompetence/work avoidance.

Thanks for the reply!

I may just look for a reputable, experienced alignment shop near me and just pay for the service. In any event Toyota corporate is going to hear about this!

The level of incompetence in the world today is pretty sad.

Thanks

Sounds wrong to me.

I thought owner manuals were all the same, no individual technical data. Mine certainly looked generic.

The 4R has been out a while now. No excuses for a dealer not to have the data and have the equipment preprogrammed with current data.

Get Toyota regional guy on the phone with these dealers.

Good luck, this is an embarrassment for Toyota. I have been waiting 4 months for break pads and shims for squeaking breaks.

I took my Trailhunter to an alignment shop the first week I had it and said minimize toe-in, set it to track straight, steering wheel straight, minimize cross camber unless necessary to adjust tracking, and caster to their discretion. I don't ever use factory specifications on any vehicle. They're a guideline that makes the vehicle safe and driveable, easily producible, and quick and efficient off the production line and that is it.

Most tire shops (or dealerships) won't satisfy requests or do anything without a computer telling them which is the actual issue you're running into, not the lack of published specifications.

Thanks, the trick is finding someone in my area that does nice work.

I’ll just have to go visit every shop in the area until I find someone that seems to know what they’re doing.

Thanks

Here's a pic of my alignment at America's tire. I have a 2-in coil lift only to level.. I went the max that I could go with that type of lift. I don't think this pic will help you any because the dealership is struggling, I find that very odd as they deal with these all the time and this Gen6 has been out for 2 years now!

Search for a frame shop that also does alignments. They put frames/bodies back to straight after wrecks and should understand steering geometry. Stock specs are just genera for monkeys to make a computer go green vs someone that really knows how to make a vehicle drive right. Problem is finding those people these days....

Weird. It makes no sense that Toyota would not have numbers, nor that a repair shop (Toyota or otherwise!) could not easily get them. On my regiular warranty services fro my '25 ORP they gave me a summary exactly like the one @MikeD showed above, so obviously they have the numbers. I cannot imagine the Trailhunter trim would be any different (availability, not necessarily the actual numbers).

Yes it is pretty weird. I’ve made 4 calls to the “customer experience center” with no answer as to why the dealership wouldn’t have the numbers. I hope to find a reputable shop near me that can do it. I don’t mind paying to have it done, I just don’t want to void my warranty by doing so.

Thanks
David

Is it Toyota doesn’t have them or the machine they have doesn’t have them? Those are two different things. If the manufacturer of machine doesnt do updates frequently (like they said ) it would make sense. The machine may not allow manual entries and none knows how to do things without the computer anymore.

I'm pretty sure their using the 24' Tacoma specs. That's what my alignment shop used for after the lift months ago and tires are wearing evenly.
