PPF wrap or not?

Thank you for accepting me into this group.
Looking for some wisdom... What bad experiences any of you had/have with matte ppf? What works/looks better and last longer Xpel or Llumar Platinum. Daily driver in Midwest ( salt, snow, acidic rain, bird crap, hot and humid )-street parking? How quickly yours failed?
Never had any of my vehicles wrapped and 4runner is definitely costly to wrap.

My friend's sprinter was wrapped in Matte Army Green and barely lasted two years before fading and cracking (sitting outside in So Cal). That experience has stopped me from fully wrapping my vehicles. Three years is about the life span of vinyl wrap.
Although it is much more expensive, I prefer PPF film. It is much thicker, lasts approx 8-10 years and is self healing. I have it on the hood of my sprinter van, on the venerable spots of my Ranger Raptor and now added it to the roof of my 4Runner TRD OR prior to installing my Westcott Roof Rack

I wasn't even considering a vinyl wrap.
I was quoted around 7K for full body Xpel PPF in clear matte so I don't want to shell out that much money for a headache in couple of years.

I dont have experience with a matte ppf but I recommend ppf filming your vehicle for high impact areas (full front end).. or you can do an entire ppf film for the entire vehicle but that's expensive and usually costs around $7K.

I also recommend ceramic coating it too but not everyone finds value in that.

Mine came with the Toyota wrap in the vulnerable spots. Had it on my 21 and it was still like new when I traded in July. Just had my rear door jambs wrapped with Expel from the door latch lock bracket down. People reach in and scratched the jambs with their belt buckles plus just getting in. Hopefully this stops the scratches

Just FYI I was quoted the same for the full PPF. I do love the matte finish that the PPF provides on the Underground color (My guy sampled a piece on my hood)

That is the reason I want it. The look of underground is very nice in stealth PPF.
From what I gathered stealth ppf is harder to work with, less forgiving and you have to wrap around all the edges unlike with glossy ones.

I agree that PPF is costly but there is a difference between costly and expensive. Also material is about 2K but if you DIY it a lot less than 7K and 7K makes it about 9% of the Trailhunter cost. I'm tempted to DIY this with someone I know who did vinyl wraps for years but never worked with PPF probably under 3K of total cost.

If you plan to keep this vehicle for awhile and your particular about how well you take care of it, PPF is 100% worth it. My other car has it and I was hit by someone going 70ish on highway. There was a small dent that PDR was able to fix other than that, the PPF save it from needing fender/hood/bumper repaint. As morning made it through the film. It paid for self at that point and I was sold on it.
My 6th gen should arrive this week and I’ll be doing full frontal Xpel PPF on it.

PPF has a limited life (6-10 years depending on type/usage).

Def not worth it for many given the cost and all the negatives.
You can repaint an entire panel for a few hundred dollars, and people are not doing that on a regular basis because of rock chips. Touch up paint is cheap, but its your money if you wanna do it, I say go for it.

Thats where I am at, the only way it makes sense to me is if it is a matte wrap which is something that has a huge impact on the look of the vehicle.

Honestly, on both my 4th gen which I had for maybe 8 years and my 5th gen which I had for 14 years ( mind is boggled at that ! ), the factory paint really was not in that bad of shape by the time I got rid of those vehicles and the 5th gen exterior was surprisingly clean after 14 years.

I just made sure to wash/wax them ( almost weekly in the first few years of ownership, than probably monthly after that but would get a pro detail done maybe once a year ).

For me, well worth it. Xpel Stealth full wrap. I live on NW Montana and it has already protected the Pro from rock chips, branch scratches, etc. Plus, the paint on these things is so soft and scratches so easily, so for me, it's a huge peace of mind. And, it just looks bad ass...

Yeah the look of that satin finish is unbeatable!!! I see you did your fenders as well ( I'm on the fence with fenders ).
Mine is in underground color so I probably keep fenders factory.
BTW NW Montana is awesome!!! GNP in one of my favorite places.

I have had my Tundra for 12.5 years, since it was new. I have never ceramic coated it, no protection on the hood, nada. I have run it through automatic washes, with brushes, countless times.

Is the paint perfect? Nope. But it's a 2013 with almost 200k miles on it. The paint is still nice enough that exactly zero dollars has been knocked off the resale value.

So to me, it is not worth it. I just don't see the value. This thread is full of people that feel the exact opposite and I am not saying they're wrong in any way. They see value, or they just want/like it.
