non HV models will have a start/stop button to turn it off (you will also see a MID screen icon that looks like @ when off, technically capital "A" in a circle)

HV will not have a start/stop button to turn it off

HV models you have to either put it into tow/haul or manual shift mode

In the USA, the Limited is the only non-HV model with Stop and Start Engine System.

lol i guess the lower trims dont get the special treatment on a 4R.

all the non HV tundra all the way down to the SR5 get the SS treatment.

but i love the way toyota implements the SS system on the non HV tundra models. unless you press the brake pedal more than 1/2 or 1/3 and do it lightly, it wont normally engage.

there is also a button but if you learn how to be gentle on braking, it wont engage.

Ya, that’s how my limited is. A little message even comes up on the screen that says “press brake harder to stop engine” or something like that!

it _is_ strange it’s not on the lower trims, given it seems like more of a CAFE thing than anything

Hey Folks,

Out of curiosity has anyone managed to configure their 4runner so that the drive mode remains in sport, sport+ or custom? For the life of me I cannot figure out why Toyota would allow for the driver to keep the drive mode in either "Eco" or "Comfort", be able to turn off the car, and then come back to the same drive mode when you turn the car back on and then NOT do it for "sport", "sport+" or "custom"?!

Same with the auto-start/stop. There's got to be a way for me to keep this off permanently.

It's really not a big deal, but my long term concern is the wear and tear on the knobs and buttons specifically lol I'm basically using them EVERY time I start up the car, which I'd prefer not to do if possible.

Thanks yal!
Toyota still owns your vehicle even though you paid for it and they know what's best for you. Comply or be punished.

On my limited gas, I’ve learned the art of just not pushing the brake pedal hard enough to trigger ASS once you’re at a stop. I don’t even have to think about it anymore. The engine only stops if you apply an excessive amount of force to the brake pedal _after_ coming to a stop. A little thing comes up on the dash saying “apply brake harder to trigger ASS” or something like that,

Not sure if the behavior is the same on hybrids, since hybrids are designed to support “engine-off” functionality at more than just complete stops.
