I'm a mechanic, so everywhere I go, I have to fix stuff. My Tacoma has a fair variety of tools, but that's my daily driver. I have to put something together for the 4Runner now. Nothing extensive, some screwdrivers, pliers, adjustable or 2, and a set of sockets. I have plenty of tools, that's not a problem. But, what is everyone else using for storage? I was thinking a soft sided bag, thrown in the back, or behind the seat when I have the dog with me.

I use my Milwaukee bag that my impact driver set came in. Heavy duty and holds everything I need. Some duct tape, screwdrivers, ratchet set, paracord, glowsticks, pliers, cutters, channel lock, extra D-Ring for recovery...

I bought this roll-up tool organizer. Loaded it up with only the tools I needed.

I’ve used it a few times and really like having mostly everything I need right there unrolled when installing or doing repairs.

I run a pelican carry on roller and it’s loaded up with Klein Canvas Pouches with sharpie labels. I grab what I need for the job if I’m doing a buddies brakes or such but I’ve got a few staple pouches always at the ready.

in the non-hybrid there is a spot just big enough for a 12inch soft bag, but no good way to hold it in place there. I use a 48" bungee, an s-hook, and a carabiner to make a triangular rigging that traps a small folding hand truck, and that acts as a wall that traps the tool bag as well as a few other smaller bags like a seperate soft bag with bungees & ratchet straps, one with a dmm and related electrical stuff.

It's not super convenient to get in and out of, but it provides an out of the way place to tuck a good amount of basics that stay walled off by the hand truck. It's super annoying that my practically free '96 has a few different cavities built in to the truck for stuff like that (under the back seat, plasic box in the passenger side wall) and my brand new one has approximately nothing.

The interior panels in the cargo area are just completely stupid. The vestigial arm rests sticking into the cargo volume with open trays on top make no sense at all. The cubby on the passenger side has no door to keep stuff inside.

You might thing the passenger side thing on the 3rd gen is not a big deal but I am able to keep my tow hitch in there plus a bunch of ratchet straps and bungees and a canister of hand wipes and hich pins and locks. That's super useful. I currently have keep my tow hitch in the tool bag behind the hand truck. Super annoying.

I'm going to knock up some kind of 3d printable cover for the cubby on the right. At least there is a lip all around the opening to grab on to.
