I like that there are both options. Don't think people need to be forced into one box or the other.

Agree with Joestac - it’s good that there is an option. I love my TH and the elements that Toyota included - OME suspension in particular. That said, some of the best builds I’ve seen are Off Roads, Premiums, SR5s, etc. And Overlanddaddy is a great example of that. In fact, I really want to know what you covered the hood with - the contrast looks great! Reminds me of my old Powerwagon.

Build your own of you have the expertise, time and expert in trouble shooting and like to be greasy monkey ecery weekend. Keep in mind TIME is the only un renewable resources. Once it gone it is gone forever. Would u rather use that time and enjoy your Trail Hunter with family or spend that time and playing engineer wanna to be ecery other weekend? It is all coming down to opportunity cost and 99.999 pct of people seem to forget to put the value on TIME and FAMILY.

For me. I’m single. I don’t have the expertise becuase it is not my field. I don’t want to play engineer wanna to be. I don’t want to spend every weekend in the shop some wheres. I don’t want to be greasy monkey every weekend. I want to spend time with friends and enjoy life. I don’t want to tear up a brand new car I don’t care what trim because there will be warranty consequences either immediately or down the road which is a guarantee will happened. I can afford it and so go big or go home. Get the Trail Hunter. Call it done. Enjoyed it ever since than. That is my take on this topic.

You can make it look like a TH but it's still missing a bunch of internals to actually be one...

Don't get me wrong, 4 Runner looks great.

For me...I decided on the Trailhunter. Throughout my 30's and 40's...I heavily modified Subaru STI's. Finish one project, open another...my tastes changed with my age...I finally ended up with a fully raced prepped Sleeper Legacy GT. It was a full on build to include chassis/suspension/brakes/and a fully built motor and transmission. After a while...I decided this was too much work to keep up. Which brings me to the reason I chose the Trailhunter. I wanted something I would be happy with as is...without wrenching to get it to something I wanted. I've done some minor cosmetic mods like window deflectors/ceramic coating/full legal tint/mudflaps/cell phone mounts...but, plan to leave it as is. Less worries and my mind is now free to think about other things rather than the next mod. I liked the Trailhunter as is...let's see if I can keep my hands out of the engine bay though...lol. Here are a few of my previously modded vehicles...I'm not at home...none of my STI's are pictured here... The Legacy GT pictured put down 450hp/430tq to the wheels...all grip...

I also have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 double cab (My Fishing/kayak truck)...I've been fixing this up recently as it was purchased pretty beat up...getting there. The paint was peeling and it had gotten into a mostly cosmetic fender bender...Toyota repainted my 4 doors/A-Piller/and both fenders (under a warranty recall)...I paid extra to have them paint a new front bumper and roof. Oh, BTW...both my Tacoma and my Trailhunter have OTT tunes...highly recommended.

U hit the nail right on the head there. People seem to forget the value of times, work shop and expertise. Who the hell wants to spend every weekend or every other weekend to play engineer wanna to be and grease monkey. It comes down to opportunity cost and how much we value our time. Time is the only none renewable resources.

AND at the end of the day what ever we modified it is still what it is from the beginning. The SR5 is still and SR5 no more no less. A Trail Hunter is a Trail Hunter no more or less.

My case. I can afford it so I go big and don’t go home. Get the Trail Hunter. Called it done and enjoyed the SUV since then with family and friends.

Nice build! Excellent effort to make it your own, regardless of what others say. Sometimes it's discouraging to post here what mods you do - you can't please everyone. :ROFLMAO: Thanks for sharing!

I ended up with a Trailhunter. It was less about any designs of going off road every weekend or over landing all over the place. I wanted the ORP, but three options were very hard to get together in the color I wanted and they offered the Trailhunter. I was happy with the price, as happy as one can be these days anyway, and selected the Trailhunter. If I wanted a to build an ultimate, bespoke rig, it would be a poor choice to start with. I'd by the lightest (weight) trim so I'd have the most room for modifications and accessories, but I'm not adding an SDM or a lot of the things the higher trims come with because they're hard to integrate cleanly, so there's always tradeoffs. I've modified Tahoes and Suburbans, Nissan 300ZX, Porsche 924 and 944, BMWs and I'm kind of done. Just don't have the energy or time to research and install everything these days.

u hit right on it. People seem to forget about the value of times, expertise, work shop and so on. Add all these up and they will see the OPPORTUNITY COST especially those weekend that they stuck inside the garage and workshop to deal with this and that. Oh hell no I would be over it very fast. Life is too short. Spend it if you can afford and enjoy it.
