Toyota App Issue - Remote Start + Door Lock Problems

2025 ORP - I cannot get the remote start to work from the Toyota app. I hold the button down, then it pops up an alert that says "Auto Start Failed: Make sure..." but I can't read the whole notification. There is no key fob in the car. The car was parked in a parking lot, and in my driveway. It will not work. Really annoying.

Also, the app almost always says the doors are unlocked when they are definitely locked. Which causes me to panic for no reason.

I love tech and gadgets but come on Toyota. I can only imagine how much of a pain in the ass this will be to have the dealer try and fix it....

Use the Lexus app. Same features, way less bugs.

1. did you install the app before you bought the vehicle? (if you did or didnt goto step 3)

2. log into toyota owners website with your account and make sure your vehicles are loaded correctly in your account (this is the same account you use to log into the app)

3. un-install the app
4. reboot your phone
5. re-install the app
6. login in using your password

also if you try downloading the digital key and it wonks out after a week or two, goto step 2 and dont download the digitial key


also toyota is wonky with vehicles across multiple toyota owner accounts.

if you want to use multiple vehicles from the app, load all of them into 1 account, its easier to swap between vehicle under 1 account (trust me its a pita to keep vehicles across different toyota owner accounts. to share a vehicle across multiple owner accounts you have to transfer the vehicle to the other person, which effectively removes its access from you, until the transfer the vehicle back to you, this the major pita part)

1. if you have spouse have them create an owner account but do NOT load any vehicles to it
2. this is only for creating profile within each physical vehicle as vehicle profiles are independent of app vehicles
3. tie your fob and memory settings (if you have memory seats/mirrors/steering wheel) to your vehicle profile
4. the account owner will usually be the primary driver and you can load up to 2-3 extra vehicle profiles to a vehicle.
5. in the app add your extra drivers (share) and use their toyota owners email/account

i am doing this from memory so its been a while and not sure the second section is verbatim on how i did it.

but i get to try this whole process again when we get rid of the 23 tundra and her 26 4R platinum comes in which is scheduled for mid october delivery

thats kinda weird, ive remoted started and it locked the vehicle before starting thru the app while walking away.

i might have to double check, not sure anymore now

Make sure your doors are locked; it won't start otherwise.

yeah i just went outside and tried it. i guess the last update they removed the check before remote start.

it no longer remote starts if the doors are unlocked.

i could have sworn it use to lock and remote start since that was how i did it last winter when i got out and walked away and started the vehicle remotely.
