The OEM crossbars are crap, honestly, especially for the price. Totally fine if you'll hardly ever use them, but if you really want to roof top anything you're much better off with 3rd party rails from Thule/Yakima/Rhino Rack for about the same price. If you never plan to use them at all, no need to spend the money either way,

I'd also try to ditch the cargo carpet mat -- you already have carpet back there, and unless you really want more carpet to protect your carpet, I'd spend that money on a rubber mat or just suck it up and put stuff on the carpet that's already in place.

Hi yall, thanks for the solid insight and advice, super helpful. I reached out to my dealer about removing items such as dash cam, cross bars, cargo accessories, and protection packages. He shared he'd have to talk to his director, but since it's still being transported, they can't do much until it lands on shore, estimated 2 weeks until I get an answer.
I'll definitely follow up and let y'all know how negotiations went and if I ended up snagging this platinum.
This is false info. It’s all done on the computer and takes all of 30 seconds to add or subtract any PIO. Then when your 4R arrives, the port employee pulls your build sheet and installs what’s listed. I removed about 6 different options and had zero listed, but called the sales MGR back a week or so later and had her re add the mudguards. It’s that simple.

but its dependent on the dealer. some want the added profit the add-ons gives, some dealers dont care and want the sale so they remove the PIO stuff.

That is not true. My car was on the boat about a week out when I called my dealer about adding / removing PIO. They did it over the phone in 10min or less and I had the updated spec sheet immediately after. It was updated on the Toyota site within an hour.

Also my sales person didn't need approval for anything either. Just went into the system and changed it herself. I added a few things I wanted and removed a few I didn't. Price was pretty much a wash but I got the truck I wanted.

There is a difference though between "can't" and "won't". They can change it now, they won't. A lot of these scummy dealers force you to get options and tell you lies about how they can't remove it. But travel outside of SET and magically all the rules change.

unfortunately toyota usa cant do anything to SET/GST on those practices. we as customers can influence the situation by buying outside the SET/GST regions, but the majority of buyers will just go along and live with it so it incentivize the dealer to continue doing the status quo in those regions.

I drove 200m to Virginia to get out from SET bullcrap. Saved $2k by doing it and they made the whole process suuuuuuper easy.

Hi all, just wanted to share an update.
Build couldn’t be altered or adjusted. As Nodak mentioned, GST/SET regions really don’t allow for removal of most PIOs.
The dealer did discount the dash cam, cross bars, and VPP though, so that helped a bit.

For anyone with a Platinum, I’m curious, what was your OTD price?

I'd definitely look outside the SET/GST regions for one if I was you. Using the handy spreadsheet from this site with all the inventory, find one with the exact options you want and go for it. These are way to expensive to just settle on what's available with a much off dealer added profit BS options.

That's how I found mine, pretty much had all the options I wanted, put a deposit down to hold it and waited just about 2 months for it to arrive. Did have to drive 3hrs away to purchase out of state. Deal was done at MSRP. During my search I had found dealers willing to deal up to about 1k off MSRP. There is more and more platinum inventory and 2026 are in port so it should work in your favor to get a better deal. When I was looking in Aug/Sept, most SET/GST dealers were still trying to get a 3-5k markup on top of MSRP.

A lot of dealers advertising between 1k-4500k off MSRP based on the data in the spreadsheet.

As I am currently shopping in the Central Texas area, I can tell you I wouldn't trust that dealer in Boerne being under MSRP. They told me over the phone their OTD price on a Trailhunter listed for $71,663 is $81,000 and change. I am waiting for them to send me the price list, I'm sure there are protection packages they are going to argue about removing.

Agree, any dealer in SET/GST region showing a discount its probably false and there will be more than that amount of DIO's added on top of it that you wont be able to get removed.

There are ones sitting at dealers right now, in fact this is is right by me (https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/c4a8675e-c73b-409b-9651-e81f1158f7d2/).. If your willing to travel or ship, I'd start with ones sitting on the lot as your best chance at getting below MSRP. Several white ones look to be on lots available.

Maybe I'm not understanding SET/GST regions my quick Google shows Good/Services Tax, but I would think that would be country wide, not state. How do you tell?

I'm looking for a Trailhunter, but am willing to travel is the deal makes sense.

GST=Gulf States Toyota (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas) and SET=South East Toyota (177 independent Toyota dealerships in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.), they are their own separate independent Toyota "distributers" outside of Toyota USA which handles the rest of the US. Those two are well known for all their distributor and dealer add on packages.

So in short, avoid those states if you can.. There may be independent dealers in those regions that are not apart of them but I cant say if that's accurate or not.

For me, I would download that spread sheet every morning, sort and filter to the model/color i wanted. Then I would look at the options and remove any that didn't meet my requirements and start contacting dealers. The one I ended up getting I called on the day it allocated to that dealer when it first appeared on the report, placed a $500 refundable deposit and waiting for it to arrive. Don't get hung up on the pre-sold column as a lot of times its not accurate, best to contact each dealer to see. A lot of dealers will not mark them pre-sold even when they are just to generate leads.
