Interesting... can anyone tell me the differences then (besides the blackout) between the Platinum and Limited? Both postings here seem to indicate they have the same factory installed accessories. I guess the limited and platinum both have whatever the "tow tech package" is?

From the press release

I'm curious to see what the price difference is between them for rear heated seats, HUD, and wipers.
Well, it is almost exactly $2,000. I'm not sure if that would be worth it to me if I decide I don't care about the hybrid ($5,000 diff without hybrid). I might have to sit in both and see what the difference in interior quality felt like. The only feature that I think I might actually miss is the HUD. Maybe the rear heated seats for the kids, but that would be rare.

seems unlikely... there are several other TRD trims available in the 4Runner line so customers can select one of those. The Platinum (and Limited) are the street oriented trims.
That was something they introduced to the tundra later on. Maybe 2024? not sure. They don't do it with the Tacoma and looks like they don't do it here. Who knows if they ever will.

Good looks at the Dark Navy interior on the Platinum trim w/ closeups of the orange stitching. Underground exterior color.

MTS only comes standard on TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro and Trailhunter. Not optional for any other trim.

That’s very disappointing. Just when I thought I was close to making up my mind on what trim to get. smh

Gen 5 Limited was basically a street machine, that could handle light off-roading. The Gen 6 Limited and Platinum trims are also basically street machines. The Gen 6 offers 4 off-road oriented models, with 3 of them offering upgraded appointments/options. Doesn't really make much sense for any off-road features on the Limited or Platinum.

We want a road trip suv, I prefer truck frames, and we don't do much off-roading any more, so the Platinum trim should suit us well. I already have an off-road oriented truck with off-road terrain select and crawl control, for any trips we want to do with off-road excursions.

We had considered the LC, but NO front passenger lumbar nixed that one. Then we put down multiple deposits on the GX 550 Overtrail + to get the options we wanted and because we liked the look WAY more than the other GX trims. But with less and less off-roading and more highway road trips, the Overtrail + gave us way more "stuff" than we needed, and "forced" a few features we really didn't want, so we re-evaluated and decided the more street oriented 4Runner Platinum should serve our needs best.

That is not entirely true. The will both have a true low end with a locking center diff. Also it will still have the brake torque vectoring (forget what Toyota calls it) that works pretty dang well. MTS is really just adjusting the intensity of that. Meanwhile, a locking rear diff and crawl control (while nice) really are not needed that badly. With a good set of tires even the Limited and Platinum will perform pretty dang well. Plus the Full-Time 4WD will perform better in high traction situations where you can't enable traditional 4WD.

Overall, the two are set up to handle much more than light off-roading. Just not hardcore stuff. I've stated elsewhere that my big complaint is it is an either or situation. You can't get Full-Time 4WD AND advanced off-road features on the 4Runner. Annoying considering the FT 4WD is the superior option.

Will Toyota only be offering black wheels on the Platinum? That seems like an undesirable omission to not offer cast aluminum or silver painted rims on a luxury trim level. Black is so trendy and it never seemed appropriate for a mature trim level like a Platinum or Limited. I wish manufacturers would stop forcing black wheels and black interior (TRD OR). At least give a choice. The navy blue interior is great here, but stop with the black wheels already.
Same here, not a fan of completely blacked out rims, maybe color accents but total blackout ? Doesnt seem right to me either.

The Limited and Sport wheels are perfect imo.

If you don't like the black wheels, get the Limited. We don't like all the silver trim & wheels on the Limited. We are getting the Platinum because of the black trim. I personally do not like black/silver trimmed wheels, either.
Apparently, many folks like the look of all black trim & wheels - it looks great on pretty much all of the Platinum color offerings. I don't like black Platinum with all black trim, and I don't like the Underground with all black trim because I prefer more of a contrast. So, I won't buy either of those colors in the Platinum. But it's ridiculous to gripe about Toyota offering those color combinations just because I don't like it, just as it's ridiculous for you to think Toyota shouldn't offer black wheels on a luxury package. You don't like the Platinum wheels, then get the Limited, or buy a set of Limited wheels and make your own Platinum setup. I won't like the choice, but who cares, it's not mine. The Limited and Platinum wheels are the exact same design, just different colors.

It would be nice to have the heads up display as an extra cost option on trim levels beyond Platinum. It can be difficult finding a way to choose one specific trim level in which can be optioned as desired when it’s an either or approach that makes you pick and choose between what you can live with and without that meet all desires. Simple features ought to be available across the board, not limiting them to one trim level with very specific tastes in appearance. Toyota is limiting appeal by not broadening their approach to equipment and colorway availability. Just like limiting a trim level to only black or only blue interiors. No need to be offended, nobody has a platinum trim 4Runner yet. We are all just discussing Toyota’s product planning decisions as we all are excited for the new model.

just for reference. for those cross shopping a gx550 vs a platinum, you will have to jump up to a premium + (69k start price msrp) to get the same features as standard and some exclusive features on the platinum are only available to a gx550 luxury + (81k start price msrp)

(and even then some of those features on the luxury + are not even offered as a package option on the lower trims)
