Selling my 2025 TRD Pro for a 2027 Ram RHO?

As the title says, I’m thinking about selling my 2025 TRD Pro I got in April of last year and getting a 2027 Ram RHO. Would love any and all thoughts, so don't hold back!

Here’s my reasoning. I love the Pro, but there are a few nit picky things here and there. There are a few rattles that have proved stubborn to fix, it would be great to have a bit of a bigger gas tank (love the other thread on this subject), the wind noise is a bit annoying, the road noise is there as well, and I thought I was going to do more trails, camping, etc., but I really haven’t. Most of my driving is highway, around town, winter driving, gravel/forest roads, road trips and some towing. But, even with those little things, I love it, and I would be happy to keep owning it for years to come.

But, right now the Pros are really holding their value. KBB is saying my private party value is $73,800 and the trade-in is $68,500. I know those are just numbers, and the market will tell, but KBB seems to be pretty accurate. And, while I know I won’t get the cost back on the full XPEL Stealth PPF, ceramic and tint package (a $10k+ package in the U.S.), CBI Rock sliders, all the little things here and there, and the transferable Toyota 10-year/100,000-mile extended warranty, I think they make mine pretty attractive at the upper end of the market. I have 17,500 miles on it now and there isn’t a used Pro in the state of Montana or really within 300 miles of where I am. So, someone could get a beautifully maintained Pro, with full XPEL Stealth PPF and CBI Rock sliders for far less than it would cost to buy new. I could potentially sell it for more than I paid for it, and throw in the PPF, etc. The numbers look decent and with current supply also looking pretty constrained for the next month or two, I don’t see that hurting resale in the near term.

As for the RHO, it is big, fast and expensive, but super solid, commands the road and is very plush on the inside with the Level 1 package. It’s enormous, but I was shocked by how well it drove and rode. It really didn’t feel like I was driving a full-size truck at all and the suspension set up is crazy. I was also blown away by how quiet it was inside. There was virtually no road noise and at 70, the wind noise was at least half of what the Pro is. As for pricing, if you look hard enough, there are dealers around selling the new ’27s for up to $11k off sticker. Not a bad deal. Yes, the gas mileage isn’t the best, but people seem to be getting around 16 mpg average, so depending on how you drive your 4Runner, it’s not that much worse, and it has a 33-gallon fuel tank.

So looking at the numbers, with the equity I have in the Pro, I could put $15k down on the RHO, keep a decent chunk of cash, and my payment would be just about the same. It seems like a pretty interesting proposition...

You are selling something that has and holds value, for something that will deprecate much faster and ITS A DODGE.....You will fill that truck up twice a much as the 4runner and instead of 40-50bucks a tank youll spend 100+ a tank. Only Dodge i have ever owned was a 2500 4x4 crewcab with the new 6.7 cummins. Put 425k miles on it and got rid of it when the transmission blew the top off(it still had typical DODGE issues)... Id never own a gas 1/2 dodge too many issues over time and just horrible resell

For anyone curious - have a ‘25 Level 1. 12,000 miles. Talked to about 7-8 dealers last few days. Trade in values coming in at 66-73. With most dealers around 67-68 range. These RHOs are depreciating little harder than I’d hope but Raptors prob same curve. Glad I bought from Mark Dodge so not upside down. 7 months in about 23% ish drop. But only 10-11% off from what I paid.

Comparing 4runners and Trucks are like apples and oranges.... Dont know how anyone even remotely compares a truck made for towing and hauling with at bed to load(RHO is more performance) to a SUV.

I will chime in, I would say keep what you got and enjoy it.

Go rent one of those Rams or a similarity to that model for a few days, get the insurance and beat the crap out of it and see if you like it.

I use my non hybrid orp as a truck to do my home improvements and haul things around.
I like the added security.

Having a truck; it's just a lot harder to get stuff in and out of the bed. And you better have it covered.

If you haven’t already, look up TRDJon on YouTube. He’s a Toyota guy who’s had Tundras, Tacomas, Land Cruisers and 4Runners - old and newer models…he just got the RHO several months ago and he has a bunch of videos on his experience.

I just read on the forums there is no oil dipstick to check engine oil, it relies on an electronic sensor that occasionally has problems accurately reading due to known glitches in the software and you have to physically take the truck in to get it fixed.
Along with several mopar technicians that say the hurricane is a complete abomination to work on.
Good luck on your decision but coming from someone that has had a handful of Chrysler products that all had issues and repair problems, I can say with certainty I will never buy another Chrysler product.

I just recently purchased a TRD ORP (love the shit out of it!) and was also considering pretty much the same Ram you're describing. The biggest deciding factor for me was resale value and reliability. Dodge trucks (except for diesels) lose a lot of value as soon as you drive them off the lot. That really bothered me when the time comes to sell or trade it in. Also the quality is much lower, and the cost of ownership much higher then Toyota. Another thing I learned is the new hurricane engine sounds terrible with an exhaust. Watch some videos.. Sounds like an angry weed eater!

I'm a mechanic and work on a lot of Chrysler products. They're overall garbage compared to Toyota.

What's up Zach. Great name by the way. Yeah, the value thing is definitely a consideration. A year and a half in, the Pro could be worth more than I paid for it. That's really incredible. As for the sound, I've test drove the RHO twice and think it sounds pretty good. Not as good as the TRX, but still good. There are a lot of people out there that think the 4Runners sound like a weed eater, but I like the turbo noise and don't think it's that bad. Thanks again and have a good one.

Honestly, this is probably true of most purchasers of adventure/off-road focused vehicles and trims. The amount of people driving around with vehicles that are optimized for something they rarely (if ever) do is massive. And the penalties they're paying are real. In ride quality, efficiency, NVH, on-road performance, etc.

Following the same logic, though... what exactly do you think you're going to use the specific qualities of this full-size truck for? Do you routinely tow > 6000 lbs? Do you routinely haul large amounts of cargo? Or, could you potentially be doing the same thing all over again and buying a vehicle optimized for a purpose you simply don't have?

Buy the vehicle that fits your _actual_ needs and wants the best. Most would be best suited by an "all-rounder." I personally think the best all-rounders are wagons, but those are largely non-existent in the US, so that leaves CUVs.

Hey NotApplicable. Of course! The percentage of people who purchase vehicles for what they're intended is very small. I bought the Pro because it is the top of the line, looks bad ass and if I wanted to go crawl some rocks, I could. That makes me feel better. With the RHO, am I always going to go 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, haul hay for the horses, tow 8,000 lbs and go baja'ing? Definitely not. But I like that I can, when I want to. And, it really is awesome to see everyone's opinion. Each one is making me think about it all. Thanks!

I had a 2019, 2500 Ram Laramie since new, I LOVED that truck, but you would not believe the amount of problems I had with it - especially electrical & once it reached a certain mileage the transmission, DEF problems etc. BUT would I get one again? Maybe. I really think it depends a lot on the dealership as well. The one I used couldn't give 2 fucks about the problems. They were rude every time I took the truck in even though I had full warranty. They'd say they fixed something, I'd get it back & the same issue arose again. This happened so many times that I probably should have lemon lawed it but, but they kept trying to fix until warranty ran out & then nothing. Stellantis were useless as well, they wouldn't let me talk to anyone past customer service so I just kept going round in circles. After spending probably $25k on trying to fix everything, I traded in for my 4Runner and the relief not having to worry about something going wrong has been amazing. But after everything, I'm still looking into a truck so I can pull a bigger RV - the Tundra's are looking really tempting though now I know the Toyota quality lol

Hi Kate. That was a horrible experience. Sorry you had to go through that. Up here in NW Montana, I've had some pretty great experiences with the dealerships, luckily. I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I didn't purchase at the local dealership and they bent over backwards to help with issues. Same for the local Toyota dealer. They went above and beyond to fix the paint issues I had with the Pro. Maybe it's a small town Western thing... Good luck with your search for the full size you need and thanks for sharing!

Hey Jason. Thanks for your reply. Yeah, filling up a 33 gallon tank with Premium Costing $4.91 where I live will be expensive, but I also fill up the Pro with Premium as well. I know I'd be taking an MPG hit from around 20 where I am with the Pro to 16 with the RHO, but I would have to be okay with that, to do it. As for the resale, I hear ya for sure. I'm wouldn't be purchasing it with Mark Dodge if I move forward, but I would be able to get the same deal, so that would make me feel a bit better.

Thank you! Definitely find northern people & places much friendlier than Florida. That said, the Toyota dealership has been great so far!

Ahaha, thanks Anthony. The second drive was great. I got it on some pretty rough roads, tested a few of the different drive modes out and it was still pretty incredible all around. I'm going to sleep on it one more night, crunch the numbers and take into consideration everyone's thoughts. But, I am leaning towards it. You only live once and if something can help in brining you joy and you can afford it, maybe it's a case of why not. I'll report back tomorrow with the final decision!
