I got rear ended by an older lady tonight. I was stopped at a stop light with my dog in the rear after just picking her up from the kennel after spending a 10 days in Maui. I got out she had a little dog in her lap and said I’m sorry I was thinking I was hitting the break but it was the gas. I was not very happy lucky with my lift and her in a smaller Subaru she just hit my bumper hitch so no damage to my 4Runner but her car it didn’t go so well. I was happy for see the front pushed in a lot, sorry if you don’t agree but damn don’t have your dog in your lap driving. We had a little bit of an argument and she yelled I am going to call the cops. I laughed and said go ahead you hit me damn ass. Thank you 4Runner for a nice strong bummer. As I was leaving I saw her start pulling away and then pulled to the side so I am not sure if she had more issues since I just headed home.

Last time I was rear-ended it was by a woman that was far too old to be driving as well. I was stopped in a left turn lane behind like 4 other cars waiting for the left turn arrow to go green.

Also had a dog in the rear. Glad you all (like us) were ok! Always scary when you have such precious cargo in the back!

yeah, these are tough trucks. I was rear ended on the highway as I was going 70, they must have been going 100. There car was totaled, couldn't even drive off the highway, had to be dragged. I drove the 4runner home. Damage was just underneath stuff, exhaust, that black bumper etc ....

Well pretty easy to determine damage but a lot of that rear bumper is plastic so you might want to check that all out as well as your framework. Usually a good eye can spot that stuff pretty visibly. But nothing is cheap and the smallest Fender bumper damage is well over $500 to have it done properly.. just my two cents

The problem with the new 4Runners and Tacomas is that the hitch is welded to the frame. A strong enough rear hit can total your vehicle.

I think you should have been nicer and more helpful to that little old lady, especially since your 4R wasn't damaged.

Making the quantum leap from a Gen 1 to a Gen 6, I do like all the tech in there designed to prevent you from getting into a collision but that only works one way. If the other driver isn't driving a current vehicle with similar tech, none of it will help you.

I would absolutely call the poice for any accident I am in. I know someone in your same situation who ended up with thousands in invisible damage. Also my mother in law was back into in a parking lot recently. She exchanged info with the 16 year old who told their insurance company they did not hit her anyone and then blocked MIL number. No recourse when she called the police after the fact, they said they couldn't help.

Yes and no. I am a generally nice person and show respect to others, but maybe unfit elderly drivers should be afraid of getting yelled at by strangers. Obviously many of them aren't capable of making good choices around driving. The next time this lady hits the gas instead of the brake maybe she is running over a kindergardner.
