Too old to crawl under, stopped by a NEW Valvoline express.....wow, $104 with a coupon!!! Everybody new, CR kid called his help number who told him my 4Runner required 6.6 qts oil........I said, nope, 5.9!! Then they stuck a tube in and sucked out the old oil (which is new to me). It was 5.7 qts, so they filled with 5.9. Were they trying to innocently rip me off, I asked myself........Gave them a toyota filter to use, no disct for that. Asked to see the old filter, both it and the old oil looked fine but did not tear down the filter. Got home, checked the level, it looked good. Looked around and the battery pole cover was left unattached and dangling......just a simple mistake. But I need to work on my flexibility and crawl under......................

My last time. Corporate greed puts these kids under time/revenue pressures and causes turnover…..will be all new faces should i go back. Which i’m not.

Go to the dealership service dept. I just got mine done because I am old and lazy, cost me $98. Had it done at about 1200 miles.

Yes, I could have save $40 but, no. Not worth the effort.

Do yourself a favor, avoid the quicky lube rip offs.

Dude, go to a small, locally owned shop. I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t want the dealership to touch it unless it’s a warranty or very Toyota specific issue.

My cousin’s husband’s shop, Lorick’s Automotive, in Lexington, SC is where mine will go with a few exceptions. The local Firestones I go to do well in a pinch.

I took my 4Runner to the dealer at 1,416 miles and paid a total of $90.91 inc tax. Oil filter, gasket and 6 qts of 0-20 oil. A good friend who has his own shop but lives far away from me said to stay away from the quick oil change shops like Jiffy Lube. He gets a lot of business from their mistakes.

I know. The first free dealer change is at 5,000. I just wanted a break-in change. Brought a toyota filter and they wouldn't even give a credit for that. Then the 'you need 6.6qts according to our advisor' baloney....then left the battery post cap dangling.....I mean, so dumb how these franchise stores don't have a clue about repeat business..

Agree. Locally owned shop where someone cares about reputation in community always best. I get 5 free from the dealer so after that I might purchase a pump and start doing it myself a few times, if I can grind my body underneath to change the filter.

I'm old too and I've got bad knees and hip, but I managed to change to oil yesterday at 3333 miles. I just took it slow, steady and careful (on my body). I went on a 2525 miles road trip last week and was not able to get the oil changed at 735 miles before we left. I am 6'2" 260lbs and had plenty of room to get underneath to get the skid plates off (12mm socket). I did take the front goatee front grill air foil thing off (10mm socket) the day before which makes it easy to get to everything from the front. Toyota puts their oil filter on too tight at the factory. My oil filter socket tool kept slipping, so I had to use a wrench to get the factory filter off. They don't need to be that tight. Used Toyota oil filter (90915-YZZN1) w/ new crush washer and Castrol GTX Full Synthetic 0W-20, both from Amazon. I got a funnel that fits Toyota fill caps which made filling easier. Toyota made it nice with that little spout they put in under the oil filter. I tried to put exactly 5.9 quarts with an extra quart bottle added to the 5 quart jug. The skid plates are easy to take off and put back on.
