My reply was not intended to come across as me being upset however I don't agree that the premium JBL system is designed to not have some punch from the rear speakers. I appreciate those who have taken in interest in this subject & problem that I & others are having with their systems. All respectful comments are appreciated even if the opinion is different.

My thing is that I know the system had some nice bass to it when I first bought it & now it doesn't for some unknown reason. Others are experiencing the same problem as reported here too. Some contributors to this thread have said their system sounds just fine & is performing as they think it should...that's great for them. Others are having a different experience with theirs...that's unfortunate.

As a community here, we are sharing thoughts, ideas & our experience which is why I'm here as I've learned alot from these forums. The only reason I'd be upset is if disrespectful comments are being made & if some are telling others like myself that we are expecting too much from a system with a subwoofer that is producing very little if any bass from at least the subwoofer. The rear speakers may be 4" drivers that physically produces little low end bass but the 7" subwoofer should certainly be producing an audible, reasonable amount of low end bass especially when the fader is moved to full rear, the bass EQ is moved to full & the volume is set to near the middle of the system's decibal capability. Mine does not produce the bass it should be producing & it apparently others here are also experiencing the same problem.

Anyone who would like to contribute to the thread by providing thoughts, ideas, experiences & solutions are more than welcome to & are appreciated. The thread is only meant to be helpful to those who are having the same problem and even those who say they don't have the same problem are welcome to provide their input as it is being taken into consideration for comparison. No friction between contributors is wanted or needed.
It's just hard to tell if you have an actual problem or not.

I'll check. Explain what exactly "audio is muted" means?
Like either turn the volume knob all the way down or press it to mute the song or radio. I also tried disconnecting apple car play thinking it might be a connection glitch but it still present with no car play connection.

I understand what you mean as others here are not actually hearing my system...but from my past experience with car audio & from similar or same reports by other contributors here it seems like I & those other unfortunate owners do have an actual problem. I'll be trying to visit a dealership sometime today if I have time to compare my system to one on the lot. I'll report back here when I can.

Use a higher quality source (like Apple Music (lossless, high-resolution) and play the exact same audio when comparing the 4Runner to the Tundra.
well its kinda hard to play spotify (lossless version, i have a paid account) and record on the phone at the same time. android auto pauses the music when i record.

the only solution i can think of is to ask this person to a more in depth review on this issue.

i've watch quite a few of his reviews and they are pretty awesome if you want an standard audio review (imo)

just search his binaural reviews

I'm in...

I checked mine and there is a very low amount to no bass coming out of the rear. If you lift the gate and listen it sounds like an AM radio.

Front sounds great....

Thanks for reporting this. 🙏🏻 My system is the same. I doubt it's performing properly.

Is it a design thing or a problem? With all the other things Toyota did that makes me scratch my head it wouldn't surprise me if that's the way it was designed???

I kinda noticed it from day one. I know I was never impressed with our lunch breaks while offroading and the hatch up listening to music but it wasn't really turned up that much and I wasn't really playing attention. I'll be sure to open the hatch this weekend and turn it up and see what it sounds like.

I think it’s pretty normal for Toyota systems to be pretty low volume in the rear. My Tacoma was like that and my brother’s GR Corolla was the same.

That being said, I keep my volume pretty low around 8-10 or so. I turned it up to 20+ and I can hear the subwoofer banging pretty loud.

Used this subwoofer test track on Apple Music:

https://music.apple.com/us/album/subwoofer-test-single/1615220988

to verify that the JBL system in my ORP is working great. Opened the back hatch and stuck my head in the center of the cargo area near the floor. Deep bass I could feel in my chest. It's working great.
Just so I can recreate what you did during your test...
• What level did you have your bass EQ set at?
• Where was your fader control set at?
• What volume level were you playing the track?
