I’ve tried plugging the phone into the USB on the side of the screen. How can one tell if it’s actually running media through the cable and not just staying on Bluetooth? When I go into the menus and select the phone as a media source, it shuts down CarPlay.
Same! Will any USB-C cable do the job? It sounds the same to me as when it's playing via Bluetooth, so I have my doubts it's actually running through the cable. And also for me, when I select phone as a media source, it kills CarPlay which means I lose Waze/Google maps!

Can you disable blue tooth, plug into USB and choose use as car play?

I never had the chance to play with the settings like some have recommended.

I'm glad I did not touch anything. Kept the the factory.settings.

My daughter played her Spotify playlist. When her hip hop and rap music came on, there was no doubt that the bass was definitely present! I asked her to make sure and she confirmed the obvious.

The Runner was bumping! Bass was amazing!

I hope everyone here who is having a problem will figure it out soon.

Thank you :)
You wont want to use the signal from that sub to replace it. I installed two alpine type Rs in mine but didnt have to modify the factory system permanently. I dont work for TacoTunes or benefit from talking about their stuff, but I ordered their add a sub for JBL systems plug and play wire harness and installed it and it works like a charm. I didnt have to hack apart any of my factory wiring which was a main concern because I have had trouble in the paste getting the correct wire diagrams for vehicles. My harness did come with reversed polarity (positive speaker wire was marked as negative and negative was marked as positive) for one of the speaker outputs, but if you know how to use a mulitmeter, its easy to make sure you are getting the right signals. I didnt use the LC2i Pro like TacoTunes recommends, you can use any line-out converter you prefer. I used a JL Audio FiX86 that I had from my previous vehicle that was just gathering dust in my garage.

TacoTunes customer support has also been amazing. I have had a lot of specific questions that they have gotten me answers for. Sometimes the response took a couple of days, but for the easier questions they responded pretty quickly. For those who are audiophiles, they are coming out with a new harness for all applications but wont be available for "at least a few months".

Also, for anyone who has not already done so, you will want to get a Carista device and turn off the fake engine noise and noise cancellation, otherwise you will have a lot of feedback once your subs are installed.

Thanks for the info. I'm doing a little research now, I want to keep a factory look without having to have a separate sub box somewhere.

You won’t be able to really achieve that. Factory subs are rarely replaceable because of the lack of frequency response and power. Not to mention airspace. JL audio makes stealth boxes that might be the best solution for you but you will still need to install an amp otherwise it’s not going to improve the sound.

Yea I was thinking replacing the amp that is under the driver side seat and seeing if a custom audio shop can remold the cargo panel that holds the sub to accommodate more airspace... Not sure how feasible that is though....

I think you might be disappointed if you go that route. The size of the amp that can fit under the seat would have to be on the smaller side. If you want to replace the amp, you are going to have to get a 5, 7, or 9 channel amp that probably wont fit without cutting the metal supports under the seat. Most 4 channel amps wont fit. And while you can put a 4 channel as a replacement and use two channels as sub outs if the amp is set up that way, you are going to lose speaker audio quality unless you add a DSP to correct the frequency response provided by the internal frequency settings of the factory amp. What you may be able to do is have a shop make a custom box where the factory sub is, with minor protrusion and have the sub amp hidden somewhere behind the panels in the cargo area, but you still wont want to use the factory sup frequencies because it doesnt include the entire range of what subs are generally used for.

This video explains what I am referring to:

Hi all,

TRD Sport Premium. There is NO bass coming out of the rear subwoofer & NO bass coming from the rear door speakers. I've checked all audio settings & all is as its supposed to be. Anyone out there having this problem & have any easy suggestions of how to fix it?

Thanks!
I just compared mine (Platinum) to my coworker's Tocoma with a JBL system.

Mine sounded totally flat, there's noise from rear but no bass.
The Tocoma punches decently.

Going to test a few more things first before I book an appointment with my dealer to have it checked out.

@elecfuyu Keep us posted. I’m very disappointed in the audio from the rear. I’m curious what you find out. Thank you!
