A club definitely does something, I even saw some test where thieves actively avoided clubs. More time = more likely to be caught, and they can find an easier target a few parking spots down.

But the best deterrent would be Canadians in that area actually voting for people who you know, actually care about crime.

Man as a Torontonian I apologize that this happened while you were visiting. This is a great city, we just have some shitty degens and police that aren’t proactive, or probably on the take.

We just moved into a new house and the one night I didn’t lock my door on my Benz, someone went through it and stole some sunglasses. The wife’s CRV hasn’t been taken yet as some solice. She has TAG on it.

I have a Platinum on order and I’m planning on having a ghost 2 immobiliser installed on Day 1 along with TAG, a club and a faraday pouch/box. The 4Runner will unfortunately have to be parked on the driveway as the garage is occupied by my summer car. But if it happens, then it happens. It just better not happen while I’m awake. Otherwise the theif is getting a hockey stick to the teeth, not even joking.

May I ask where in the city were you staying when the car taken?

This really suck man. Sorry to hear this. I’d be irate if this happened to me. I hear Toyotas are the most stollen vehicles in Canada. Hopefully you get back to where you were and some. Big ups to you.
According to the CBC news report, it sounds like Honda CRVs are the most stolen there. That being said, Mercedes, Porsche, BMWs, and Land Rovers are still the most stolen of the luxury vehicles. But, watching the news report, with a vehicle being stolen every 17 minutes in Ontario, it really looks like it's a wide variety of makes and models; Toyotas being one of them.

Honda' like Toyota's security system sucks. It's easy pickings. I'm convinced now these guys have tippers letting them know when their favourite models are sitting in the parking lots. They literally show up to steal when you just arrived and yeah our Government is a joke. Nothing happens, out on bail in literally hours of being caught.

That is also at least 4 years old likely older like during Covid based on masks everywhere.

It’s all good. Probably should have done some research on that. But honestly didn’t know it was like that In Toronto. I was staying next to the cn tower at 300 front st w. Parked in the open paid parking lot. Unfortunately couldn’t park in a garage due to my RTT being to tall lol

Not that it helps, but you were actually staying in one of the areas with the least amount of car thefts. I wonder if someone saw your out of town plates and followed, seeing if you would park in a known air bnb area. Some real bad luck looking at it statistically.

Honestly I thought it was sketchy cuz the lot attendant had me park in the space next to the side walk and the road. In open view which in hindsight wish I said I’d like to park more in. Of course just bad luck too I guess

Disarm what? Vast majority of people in major Canadian cities were never rolling around with firearms. I’ll take higher car theft rates than higher gun crime rates any day of the week.

I live in the US, love guns, but this is a dumb take. It has nothing to do with car thieves or theft. It's not like Canadians (or any one) was sitting out front guarding their vehicle and preventing theft with a firearm and now they "cannot" or something. A firearm can prevent some crime, some of the time, in specific circumstances if properly deployed, but I don't think having your car taken without your knowledge and shipped out of the country is one.

Is this mostly an Ontario / Toronto thing, or are LCs and 4Runners being stolen at the same rate all over the country?

I’ve been visiting Vancouver and other areas in southern British Columbia for decades and never heard about this problem out here.
having lived in the metro van area all my life - I've never heard of auto theft of any model of car being such an incredible rampant problem as it seems to be in Ontario/Quebec. Smashed windows in sketchy parking lots though, definitely, although that's everywhere these days

There's no way you could convince me to park my car outside of my own garage if I lived out east, the whole auto theft pipeline from Montreal to Africa/Middle East is insane
