Is the 2026 Limited (Non-Hybrid) safe to buy now, or should I wait for 2027?

My experience on the limited is the shocks are a little harsh. More so than I expected from the limited. Still a great vehicle. The interior is very nice.

25 TRD off-road premium 3K miles on the clock not sure of how many operating hours, I'm not keeping a record but it does idle a lot in traffic around where I live.

I do frequent 3K oil changes because of the turbo. That's just me and my fears. I also put wheel locks on.
Otherwise the only issues I have are watching the vagrants that want to steal off my truck. But I digress! No issues at all, as it should be and is covered by a 3-year Factory bumper to bumper warranty.

Took delivery in May on my limited no issues except for the front air. Dam was a little loose and they already corrected the problem but now they’re gonna have to replace the hardware AS PER TSB.
HAD A LITTLE SQUEAL IN THE BRAKES, BUT AFTER 10,000 MILES IT WENT AWAY
PUSHING 20k now LOVE IT
going in for 20k service in the next week or two(last free oil change)oil changes 3.5k 7k 10k 15k
Dunlop 20” tires are terrible by 25k they will be gone that should be a good upgrade

Bought mine mid November, currently at 3500 miles. Never had any issues, no engine issues, no brake issues. Completely satisfied with my purchase. No reason to wait longer

If you like the current 4Runner, buy it. What’s the point of waiting? I have mine for 6 months already and don’t see any problems with it. Judging by what everybody else here on this forum is saying, this is a durable and reliable truck. Just make sure this is the type of vehicle that works for you. This is not a fuel efficient commuter SUV. This is a heavy off roader.

My wife has her heart set on a new 6th Gen 4Runner Limited (Wind Chill Pearl, 4-cylinder, Non-Hybrid). I purposefully skipped the 2025 models to adhere to my general rule of avoiding the "first production year" of any new vehicle.


Now that we are well into 2026, I’m looking for a reality check from current owners or any lurking forum tech-gurus before we place any order:

My main questions are:

1. 2026 Reliability Status: With the recall and repair data available so far, are the 2026s deemed "safe," or are they still having any early production bugs?
2. Trim-Specific Issues: Are there any known problems specific to the Limited trim that I should be watching for?
3. Timing: Would it be wiser to wait until late 2026—or even push to the 2027 model year? I’m willing to wait if there are significant updates or fixes coming down the pipeline.

My Goal: To get my wife into a Limited with as few headaches as possible, ideally close to invoice price.

just remember, they say you only live once, their wrong, you live everyday you only die once ! buy it, enjoy it, power train warranty is good for 50,000 miles i believe.

what kind of issues? I've been on this form since before they came out and have one of the first to hit the states.

2 issues that get talked about was a squeeky brake when backing up which has a fix and I've seen, depending on the tire possibly some complain of a vibration.

My wife's Limited came in exactly on her birthday last July as we put an order for it last January. We're both very happy with it. As have been mentioned before, the 20" stock Dunlop Grandtrek were not so good, so put new 285/70r17 MT Baja Boss on Icon wheels and they improved the ride quite a bit. We've owned a 3rd gen Limited for over 25 years, a 5th gen Limited and this 6th gen is the best one. The only issue for me (not my wife), is interior is smaller then I remember the older ones were. Steering and power is far better in 6th gen though.
