The post is asking for part numbers or help to find the best part numbers for myself. I decided to place it on its own post to see if I can achieve the help instead of being buried in someone else’s post. I thought it was a pretty clear ask if you read what I asked for… TWICE. And here we are, no help- just pissing and moaning.

"It's never happened to me so it must be impossible" believe what you want but it is an easily verified phenomenon. You can find dozens of articles and news stories about this online. It is not just from a 100 degree temps, it is from the sun being focused by somthing like a window on a building. It only happens if you are unlucky and park in the exact wrong spot on the wrong day.

I live in San Diego. You either didn’t read the post, or you are just here to troll. I said that I must have parked next to something, which caused the “Solar Convergence”. It could be something as simple as double paned windows on a house, a convex mirror, or a glass bottle sitting in the sun. Buy it or not, it’s happening and from what I can tell, it’s because automotive plastics can have a melting point as low as 160 degrees.

from what i can tell most automotive plastics are only rated up to about 200F, solar convergence still hits higher than that.

even in hot climates a vehicle interior can hit up to 180F depending on how dark the dash and what not is in an enclosed vehicle in the sun like arizona.

I would personally take this to the dealer and try to have it replaced under warranty. This shouldn't happen.

It absolutely will happen based on some simple physics that is no fault of Toyota's, and which would also melt the plastic trim on any other vehicle. The photos clearly show this was caused by a focused/magnified light source, and not just ambient heat.

It is a bummer, but it's due to environmental factors and not some fundamental build quality defect that a warranty should cover. Focused sunlight can reach 1,000F+, and there is not a single automotive manufacturer on earth that can efficiently mass-produce plastic trim that wouldn't melt in all the possible edge cases.

My ORP came with warped shitty fender flares from the factory. Most people have gaps in their flares. Why are people so hell bent on arguing on this forum? feels like a jeep forum in here lately

yes you can try, but dont expect much from toyota or any other mass oem.

i do know lexus will sometimes do a courtesy replacement 1 time for customer service/retention but dont expect it.

and not just for solar convergence. they will do minor stuff for customer service/good will/retention especially for customers that do repet business with a specific dealer and not just jump around dealers finding the best deal

for me and my toyota dealer, i have bought over 15+ toyota's from them, they give me some leeway on stuff (like i told them i will be travelling during a certain period and i might be in the state when the new 4R arrives, they said no problem since i am a valued customer they will hold it until i get back, also helps i have a $1000 cash deposit on it already)

and the warped fender flares is a defect, not an act of god so to speak. the gap in fender flares is a fitment issue so its a quality thing.

some dealers will blow off customers since its such a minor thing and more hassle for the dealer than if you had a good dealer willing to go the extra step to make a customer happy.

To think that it is completely out of the realm of possibility for the largest auto manufacturer in the world (or a dealership) to replace a few dollars of plastic to keep a customer coming back to buy their increasingly more expensive cars just doesn’t seem realistic to me.
Yes, on paper it’s not covered. We all understand that.

But the ROI on replacing a few bucks of plastic for me to come back in 5 years and drop another $60k on a new Toyota is obviously worth consideration. If they tell me to kick rocks, I may consider another brand next time.

Like I mentioned/cited above (before the exchange was deleted by admins), some people have had luck with it being covered by their dealers from other brands. But if you don’t ask then you won’t know and you’re stuck paying $1k. A guy on the Land Cruiser forum said his daughter’s 2024 forester had pieces melt after light bounced off their house window. Subaru replaced it under warranty with no issues.

This is why I said in my initial reply “PERSONALLY, I would take it to the dealership to TRY and have them replace it under warranty”.

EDIT: For clarification, I should add that my previous reply that you quoted was not directed at you. It was a direct reply to another guy on here who rrrreally wanted to argue.
