I have just completed 1000 miles on my TRD ORP Hybrid.

Averages 21 mpg.

Combination of city, with plenty of stop and go, and highway, usually between 60-70.

Also note:
- I did remove my air dam
- I have been using a lot of AC due to the high summer heat.
- Stock all terrain tires and wheel.

If anyone is using the computer they are posting inaccurate numbers.

Mine were calculated with odometer and pump numbers. Dash calculate was spot on first tank and off by .5 on second

Here is my data on my TrdPro. Currently at 2,351 miles with a mix of city and highway driving, ac blasting, being in traffic. About to go on a 660 miles round trip this weekend to a campsite. Hoping the mileage will be up a bit more with majority of highway driving and using cruise control.

If no other compensation is done on the vehicle to calibrate the tire size, 295/70/18 tires instead of the standard (at least on the ORP) 265/70/18 would result in about a 5% lower calculation of MPG (either via the onboard indicators or manually with miles/volume.

After owning a Wrangler 4xe and Tesla model 3, I just picked up my new Off-Road Premium Hybrid in Baltimore and drove it back to Virginia during rush hour. I also missed an exit and ended up driving through D.C., which I figured it would be a good test to see what the trip computer would calculate and how the hybrid system would perform in real world traffic.

I drove in eco the entire time and I generally stayed 5-10 mph over the limit with a top speed of 65 mph. The route was probably 30% highway and 70% stop and go. I'm very impressed with how the hybrid system handled the stop and go traffic, and the driving was immensely better than the Wrangler.

I'm trying eco mode on my 3rd tank and can't tell any difference. Dash mpg so far doesn't show any either

I am hovering at around 21 mpg with my TH with full roof rack, 40" light bar, ladder and ditch lights creating additional turbulence and resistance. I also have driving habits not suitable for the TH as my last car was a hyper-modified Audi A3 (MQB) with over 400hp and 450 lb.tq. and suspension to match tracking every other weekend. So I must learn new driving behaviors to keep the TH at a decent MPG range. I have been switching from Eco at city to normal mode at highways and seems to help.

3 months in and 1,200 miles Trailhunter
The best mileage I've been able to get around town and on the highway has been 16 MPG. To prove a point to my friend who insisted putting premium fuel in it would get better mileage which of course can't happen I tried it anyway and it went down by one MPG. I'm checking the mileage using math and not the mileage computer although they are pretty close. I'm assuming I'm not getting as good a mileage because of the extra weight the Trailhunter has, complete underbody skid plates weigh quite a bit. I only drive about 300 miles a month, maybe when it gets more broken in. Just did the first oil change at 1K miles.

Mileage seems to be all over the place. Lots of stop/go seems to be my culprit and can watch it go down. A little space in between stops and it goes right back up. Half way through this tank and eco mode seems worse

2300 mi on ODO and 17mpg most of the time... then again Trailhunter is heavy af + all the factory mods. One time i was over 20mpg - was best day ever.

335 mi off road premium, 17.2 MPG. Much higher than I expected. 70% highways and 30% local roads, and I use ECO almost all the time.

I have removed the air dam and changed the tire to Toyo Open Country A/T III. Nothing crazy. Hope the MPG would become better over time.

TRD Pro, 3000 mi to date, 91 octane, tires at 33 psi and started off in Standard mode for the first 2K. Off the lot mpg: 17.5 mpg, which increased with each fill up. Depending upon driving conditions, I could reach 21 mpg (barely) by 2K. I took off the roof rack cross bars (visually an improvement when not in use) and switched to ECO mode; my mpg ranged from 18.5 to 22.5 mpg, averaging about 20.0.

It’s hot this time of year where I live but one cool morning I turned off the AC for a 60 mile run at moderate speeds 30-55 mph. It jumped to 25 mpg. This was at 2600 miles.

Other findings, the dash mileage runs about 1/2 to 3/4 a gallon less than by doing the math. Also, putting the shifter into manual mode disables the engine from shutting down at stoplights, bumper to bumper crawling and long down grades. Engine only turns off when the shifter is in Drive.

I pull a 4000 lb trailer and this engine is amazing. I’m getting .5 to 1 mpg better than my Gen 5 but the towing is spectacular. It moves off the line effortlessly. Anyone who tows should take a close look at this engine package, it’s goes far beyond my expectations. Barely know the trailer is there. Very happy with my choice.

One more thought: To my understanding, the AC runs entirely off the hybrid battery and continues working when the gas engine turns off at stop lights. It makes sense then why the mileage would drop if the gas engine needs to run more to keep the hybrid battery charged.

Any tech experts out thee who can comment on this?

Note ALSO that the engine shutdown only occurs when in 2WD. I forgot to switch out of 4HI after getting off the gravel roads after off-roading last weekend, drove in 4HI for a bit and failed to discover it until making a sharp turn into a parking spot. Kept wondering why the engine shutdown wasn't happening. D'OH.
Still got OK milage on a highway trip but not as good as it would have been in 2WD (and with engine shutdown). Here is the trip summary at the time I realized my error.:

I started the discussion about number of bars so decided to show that 8 is, in fact, achievable. See photo below. We know the battery charges when brakes are applied and from the gas engine through some magic algorithm (e.g., when there are only 3 bars, the engine will much more rarely turn off completely, but with 5 bars the engine shuts down (zero RPS on tach) much more frequently when cruising even very slightly downhill). And I've now found another mechanism that will charge the battery quickly: engine braking. I took an off road excursion this past weekend and on the way to the the trails in George Washington National Forest I crossed over the Shenandoah parkway. The way down is long and steep and switchbacked so I put it in standard mode and used the engine to slow things down - mostly 3rd gear and a bit of 2nd and 4rh. and I watched the battery climb until it was all the way up to 8 bars! It went down quickly when I got to the trail and climbed the rocky trail in 4Lo. (even locked the diff and used crawl mode along with MTS under car view to avoid rocks poking through the plastic skid plate:>) So much fun. But the main point for this thread: 8 Bars!
