Hitch Basket Messing with Backup Sensors?

I am looking at the Yakima EXO system that mounts to the hitch, but I am really worried about it setting off the high tech sensor system on this truck... Anyone run a hitch basket or bike rack on the rear and have experience with how the truck handles it?

I had to install a basket on the back hitch to move a few things. and going forward is not a problem. When you backup though that's another story. It constantly thinks something is there, and brakes for you, it's a pain in the rear (haha). It will still allow you to back up but it will brake every 2 seconds, so backing up is not fun. I tried to enable tow, that didn't do it. I think I could have played around with the options to disable rear sensors, but it wasn't worth the hassle, since I was moving forward 99% of the time...

Okay so yes I ran one for a few weeks on a trip. You have to dissable the parking support brake (page 341 of the manual). Otherwise it slams on the brakes every 4 feet. Scares the crap out of you even if your expecting it. Its in the settings menu you get to through the steering wheel. Then each time it will ask if you have a trailer attached and I just select no. Note also that when you disable parking support it will warn you of this on the dash requiring you to press the enter button on the steering wheel every time you start the 4Runner. Not a huge deal for me, but wanted to point it out as I could see some people being annoyed with this.

this is somewhat from our 23 tundra. i use this button to turn off the sensors for car wash and backing up.

Nice! You can fit so many beaver nuggets in that roof box. How does that setup work for you so far? I'm contemplating a yakima or thule box, but afraid it'll get me 15 mpg on a 1k mile road trip...

i guess they didnt enable this button in the 4R. looking thru the manual you can only do this via the multimedia head unit.

button doesnt exist in the 4R going thru all the button layouts in the manual.

at least in our non HV tundra there is a dedicated button for the PKSB to temp turn off.

I really like the Yakima it’s the Carbon 16, I want to say been using it 5 years now. Super easy to setup we put duffel bags with our clothes in it. Now. as far as how it affects mileage I really couldn’t tell you. We have a lot of factors going on as you can see from the picture. The rear cargo area is filled with camping gear, the hitch has the cooler and then containers with food and pots and pans, etc., in there. We are family of four. My boys are 13 and 11. So there’s a lot of weight Being moved. Driving from Dallas, Texas to Yosemite national Park and back this year we averaged about 16 1/2 miles per gallon. With the air dam removed in front.
