Hi all, I received a Thule ReVert 4 Bike rack for Christmas but just got around to assembling it. However, upon completion, I noticed in the instruction manual that the hitch pin is meant to be >1.5” from the end of the receiver (see attached picture). I measured the hitch pin distance of the receiver on my 4Runner to be 1”. According to the instruction manual, this is “Not ok”. Anyone have any experience with this? Will the rack and hitch receiver be fine? Just don’t want to be a hazard to others driving around with a hitch rack that isn’t properly secured/installed.

I have the Thule T2 Pro XTR and hadn't even thought, but luckily I am within range. I only carry two bikes though. The pin hole is pretty shallow on this hitch. I suppose you can load it up and see how much sag you get on the rack with 4 bikes loaded. Any idea how much all 4 weigh together?

you are dealing with the Thule box pipe and known strength of it

if you plan on loading more than 2, non-ebikes.... (say total weight 75lbs)

I'd recommend a hitch extender as long as it's own box is beefy, then
using that the thule will have enough purchase to not bend

hitch extenders themselves introduce more bending force so...this is kinda a tough
one to say for sure...do this thing.

you might also have the 4runner hitch drilled deeper if there is enough room to do it

or you can weld an inner box to the Thule and solve the strength that way

I would visit etrailer.com and pose the question on the revert product page. They’re really good about answers and work-arounds
