Extended warranty for the 6th gen?

Hello all,
I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone out here has opted for the extended warranty, and what package did you pick for your 6th gen.?
Or do you feel perhaps it's not worth it.

My personal experience purchasing an extended warranty was that I never used it.

You can purchase an extended warranty prior to the original warranty expiring. Previously I never purchase these but plan to study the plan and make that call down the road. No sense spending the $$ until the time comes

Yes you can purchase the extended warranty just up until your factory warranty is ready to expire, but be aware that you will pay a premium for that extension and it's a cash Buy, meaning you cannot absorb that in your financing.

I have asked those questions and reluctantly purchase the extended warranty just because. But never had to use it. I live in California, and we have a lot of quirky rules and regulations.

The Dealership has Markup in the warranty. They will deal with you if you ask. If they don't, go elsewhere

I bought the Toyota 10/100k extended warranty because the dealer gave me a huge $ chunk off. I bought my 4R because for the 1zt time on my last vehicle I didn't spend the $ on an extended warranty, and at 3yrs 2mo and 24k miles I started having electrical and other misc issues.

I'll chime in on my experience with extended warranties. One thing that Toyota does is they scrub off your 3-year or 36k miles part right off the top from your extended warranty. Meaning your warranty does not start after the 3 years 36,000 miles.

so if you buy an 8-year extended warranty, you're really not getting eight because you already get three as a standard warranty. I have had conversations with Toyota corporate and dealerships on this tactic.

In my engineering mind, an extended warranty should mean it's an extension after your original warranty is over, And not take off 3 years automatically because you purchased it before you took possession.

Now if they want to give you some incredible discount on your extended warranty that might offset the 3 years that you're losing .

I turned down the extended warranty when first offered. Just as the transaction was wrapping up, they offered a 25% discount. I took it because all the tech in these new ones. With turbo plus hybrid and LED panels, lots more to go wrong than my 2012 Trail (180,000 miles with just oil changes and tires). Average that fee out over 10 years, it didn’t feel so bad.

I never thought I would, but after a long squeeze w/ the financing guy ( I had the finance done elsewhere so he was eager to sell us something....) it made $$ sense to go w/ 10y-100K. For all the new tech like screens, etc, not so much for powertrain.

Advice for all : Remember, time is your friend at the dealer when purchasing a car and all that extra stuff.... just dance with them for a while and prices start going down to a fair deal. That has been my experience thus far.

I usually get the extended warranty but have had in the past only minor claims and just break even on the cost of the warranty vs the cost of the repairs. This time I did not get the warranty. I purchased a Toyota due to its reputation of being reliable. I hope I made the right choice. If things go south I may get it before the initial 3 years is up.

Coming from a Highlander, I was excited to get back into a truck. I've not been happy with this purchase. I've got some mystery oil leaking from the body panels which I think may be some undercoating, my transmission jerks into gears on cold starts, the AC stutters the engine when the compressor kicks, I've got some of that brake squealing in reverse going on, the kick to open lift gate is finicky getting to work, and the hatch opening and closing sounds like it's about to break the latch.

I've got coverage up to 5 years but I'll probably be looking to trade it in after 3.

Got the extended warranty purely because of all the tech in this truck. I don't wanna pay for any of it. Went with 100k miles( dont remember how many year) my last car had 52k miles after 10 years of ownership so i figured id be good plus i may trade up for the mid-gen refresh if they make significant upgrades.
Side note: Toyota extended warranties arent transferable if you trade in, only in a private sale. But my dealer said they'd prorate my remaining warranty if i traded in

I am absolutely getting an extended warranty on my 6th gen TRD ORP.

There is so much tech in these vehicles that something is bound to fail after 36k miles.

I don't even blame or consider that to be Toyotas fault. Its just the nature of tech.

I agree being this a first-year model. I've always balked at getting the extended warranty. And luckily in my 5th generation I never had to use it.. but I digress to say that with the turbo pushing this engine I am trying to think positive and probably do very frequent oil changes. And yes the tech part is the big concern with any vehicle that is a rolling laptop.

I personally went through this with a brand new 2024 Mercedes GLC 300. After five times to the dealership for various electrical problems Mercedes corporate bought the car back or it would have been a lemon law case. In any event when a manufacturer buys a car back it's still tagged with a stigma of a lemon.

So for the extra money it's good peace of mind after the warranty. I ended up getting the Platinum 100,000 mile. What did you get?
