Never use it unless I think its there might as well open it
There is a habit in Canada of moonroofs on almost everything
In this climate I cant for the life of me understand why
It must be purely for marketing
Dont even get me started on the folly Of the panoramic roof....
I will say this, over 20years of having all my vehicles with a moonroof I have to this point never had an issue with one

I bought a '25 OR without a moonroof and sorely miss it. In my '98 I open it automatically as soon as I get in the vehicle unless it is raining heavily or freezing.

Advantages:
- Lights up the interior. Without it it feels like you are driving a tank.
- Allows for monitoring cargo on the roof.
- Can leave it tilted up in the parking lot when running errands so that you don't return to an oven.

Disadvantages:
For me, none. I don't need the extra headroom.

What I'd really want is safari windows, but short of that, a moonroof would do. I did not buy the ORP with a moonroof because I hate the fake leather seats and did not want to pay over $10k extra to just get a moonroof. Maybe I should have.

I do, yes. I find western WA to be the perfect climate to justify the sunroof. On cloudy days (much of the year) or at dawn/dusk it lets much-appreciated extra light into the cabin to brighten it up. On warmer days, it's great for airflow. On the unusual too-warm-too-sunny day, you can easily close up the cover.

I understand that in some climates, the too-warm-too-sunny scenario is much more common, meaning people have much less opportunity to appreciate the extra glass or extra opening to the outdoors. Though, even growing up in AZ sunroofs were great 75% of the year, so maybe I'm just a sunroof fan overall.

I live in SoCal and opening the sunroof and back window is the first thing I do after starting my 4Runner. I owned jeeps for 20+ years and sorely miss taking the top off.

'99 4runner, use it all the time, love it. sometimes as a vent, sometimes wide open

2013 tacoma, 2022 rav4, 2025 4runner, no moonroof and don't miss it

moonroof is ok but not any type of focus point on purchasing

also the '99, never a leak never a clog, 100% perfect for 26 years

I was chatting with my T dealer yesterday about our desire for a 4R TRD Sport - Premium but it had to be without sunroof for various reasons, not least the loss of headroom. He said most of the early deliveries were coming with this option included as does the limited and we may struggle to find one without for quite a while.

So here is my question, Toyota (or dealers) seem to think everyone wants the Sun/Moon roof, but who actually uses it?
In our area (NJ) it seems its either too hot or too cold to have it open and the loss of 3 " headroom isn't good. :)
I'll put my two cents in on having a sun roof.
I live in So cal and always have my visor open to bring in extra light.

This enables me to see all of the controls Etc in this black hole of a car since black is all you get in the orp, perhaps the sport is different with it's lighter interior color.

I also use my sunroof everyday and at least open it halfway when I'm cruising down the Coast Highway on cooler not so hot mornings. I like the open air feel especially when going up through Northern California redwoods and having it wide open and seeing the trees and the mountains. Not so confining, a nice ride with the sunroof open.

I think it really falls into what your likes and needs are. Personally I'm not too comfortable in a convertible car, for a lot of the same reasons that people don't like a sunroof.

I'm in the personal preference camp. I won't buy a vehicle with a moonroof/sunroof for two reasons: 1) the rim/frame around the roof window drops the headliner quite a bit and I need all the headroom I can get; and 2) I find the light above me a distraction. I"m sure I could adjust to the light in time, but why pay for something I don't like or need, and which actually makes me more likely to hit my head on the roof? I've had to hunt around the country and fly to other parts of the US to get the vehicle I need, but since I'll be driving it for years, it's worth the effort to get what I want.

I have a sun roof and the best thing I did was have it tinted with the ceramic film for heat/UV protection. It really made a world of difference here in Colorado. On a sunny day I no longer need to close the shade to be comfortable while driving.

I LOVE the sunroof, especially with the back window dropped!

Having a panoramic sunroof doesn't make any sense and doesn't belong on a true off-road SUV because of the large span. The twisting and stresses on the frame and body when off-roading will eventually create issues with a panoramic roof and the glass. Panoramic sunroof should only be on boutique / luxury SUVs or on-road SUVs.

I don’t think anyone is talking about a panoramic roof, given the 4Runner doesn’t have one.

But while we’re on the topic, a panoramic roof is no problem for engineers when it comes to designing a vehicle that can handle the “stresses” of off-roading. Hell, the most capable off-road vehicles don’t even have roofs at all.

Another thing that drew me to the Trailhunter is the lack of sunroof. Being 6'6" I usually just lose headroom and never use them on vehicles that have had them.

I know that Toyota doesn't offer panoramic roofs for 4Runners. It's a good thing they don't offer it. The issue with panoramic roofs encountering high body torsion (i.e., off-roading) isn't so much with the roof itself. The issue or weak points will be the glass and also its interface (i.e., glass-to-roof seal).
